Union HRD minister Smriti Irani while dismissing a media report which claims the government is planning to declare 'no holiday in CBSE schools on Christmas', clarified that there was no such plan and Christmas would be a holiday like previous years. A news report by English daily TOI speculated that there might be no holidays on Christmas in CBSE affiliated schools as the government has certain plans to celebrate the birthdays of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and late Madan Mohan Malviya as 'good governance day' by orgainsing essay competition and other activites in schools. In Focus The report also cited a circular issued by Central government run Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) in this regard. NVS runs 595 residential schools in rural areas all over the country. A visibly angry Smriti Irani raised strong objection over the manner the news report has been published without verifying the facts. She said the essay competition is online and voluntary, so there's no question of schools remaining open on Christmas.
