Glad you reached home. Swiss has penalty system but nothing like deportation even if you have no Visa(and has schengen). In my case I travel alone to European sites. My feet was wet when I lost my stuff as I am alone and nobody understand my problem. In my recent trips this is what I am following -Scan passport and keep it in email - Once reached hotel put it in locker - if you had to take it outside "put ur back pack to the front on ur chest"..European pick pocketers eyes are always on back packs. - Don't give any bags to kids If you did't loose bags means you have not experienced Europe  This is told by my colleagues who are local. 1/4 travelers experience these. With my eyes I saw once how they pickpocket. Near "Norterdam church" a tour guide was explaining about architecture. There were 100+ poeple looking at TOP of church when he was explaining about top portion. There is a "Gora" 20 people next to me me was so deep into that explanation and he is in his world. I see a Gipsy looking fellow opening his back pack Zip and taking stuff selectively As long as we don't get hit it's a good trip. If you go Poland side worst is this Russian ethnics&Gipsies they hit from backside(first on ur neck). Except Sweden and Norway this is worst in all other places. By the way where in Swiss you work? I may visit Jenbacher Austria soon which is just ur border and also Zurich airport(and also the drive is awesome) is closer than Vienna. Good luck... | ||

adi full passport, you should request for tatkal that will be given in 1 day with 2 years validity, last year maa wife pp pote we requested for tatkal showing emergency, get a letter from your company requesting you to join immediately and show that letter as emergency letter for tatkal passport, tatkal pp ki extra charge chestaru | ||

Do you have any internet connection by the way when you are traveling on trains? Cologn area is the worst for that and 3-4 years back at airport also it was 30 Euros/hr to get internet. The only place I used to get free is at airport provided you have 1st class ticket. I can share my boingo account and hopefully my account is active and u can use. | ||

Sorry my typo. Brussels/Frankfurt is closest for you. I was thinking of my place long time back and said Berlin is closest. But Brussles ticket is cheapest on Bahn and also noboddy asks for passport. But one serious advise. "Don't roam around alone in Brussels. worst than Cologn." That way Franfurt is safe and also things are easy if I am correct as it is like our bagalore for them. If you decide to go to Brussles(because cheap ticket compared to Franfirt) then you will come across(Liege) one of the the worlds beautiful station . I know it's not time for site seeing but just want to make you feel better. But more than anything else somebody has to get you connected with Indian autorities. They have the worst mindset and lets hope you will come across some help. Any body on this forums??? | ||

First of all sorry for your situation. I know things may have changed but let me share my experience. Before anything I can tell you will be out of this wihout any damage on USA immigration side. - USA side you will not have much trouble and don't worry about I-140 also. Finger prints will get you everything back. - Indian authorities is the real pain. 4 years back some "gipsy" young guys snatched my bag and ran away in Vienna. I had my green card in the bag. Vinnea airport authorities created trouble but once I am frankfurt USCIS was connected and they allowed me to board Boston flight. I was in 1st class and could not control my tension and started googling. Once I am at Boston it was the best USCIS experience I ever had. The first person I met told me "You are not the 1st one to loose and there is no issue. USCIS now a days with finger print and biometric can match/catch wihtout documents" They took me to room matched my fingers and that was is it. When I was leaving that room I asked them "Is this the same if I had lost passport also???". He said as per as USA is concerned now a days for passport lost also they will issue VISA in new passport wihout any trouble. Here is recent experience with another person(Friend of mine and called me direct the movement he lost it) who was on Advance Parole and lost passport+Parole in Europe. Here are the two choices he was given - Take one time travel passport if you need to Travel ASAP to India - Or else we will give you regular passport but takes time Because of his tension he took one time(two page) passport and went to India. In India it was painful for him to get Regular passport but he got USA stamping without any pain. One final thing. In trains "TT asks for passport is just on papers(except switzerland going) and happened only once in my extensive travel in Europe. ON "Bahn" train NEVER it happened. Particularly I travlelled atleast 25 times via cologn station towards Belgium as well as East Europe. Twice it happened in South france and Austraia close to Jenbacher area. For that matter in USA near Adirondacks(NY) Border patrol officers(we were inside USA) put handcuffs in 2003. After 1 hr they let us go with food and snacks. The bad part is you have to go back to Switzerland. Stay away from that(unless you are sure and got some help) as they check it. Also even for switzerland I paid 120 Euros penalty once and they let me go on that train. So there is nothing like "police will arrest you and all those stories". So don't worry about train travel and it won't happen. By the way near Bahn university(it is maximum 1 hr train journey) from Cologn church station there used to be an Indian organization and I heard Indian Authorities are there too. It is near Bahn univeristy(also UN office is close by) and there is a restaunrt there too. But check recent situation. But not sure if they can help. Where is cologn you lost??? Near the church? Couple of things before you do other things if you have are done in Europe and has to travel ourrside. - Call your airline and reschedule or cancel ur ticket. If you don't do this it becomes "NOSHOW" and you get ZERO $ back. _ If you have family then give a thought about one time travel(But check what are the drawbacks as my friend felt it was better if he had gone for Regular passport) One final thing,Do not panic and like US officer said "You not the first person to loose passport".. You will get out of it soon and "you will have a stroy to share". This is not end of the world. One final thing take help of your Company(we need their help) as things will move fast. By the way "Police complaint is must and in my case they gave a letter in Czech language as it happened on Czech side" even to get One time travel passport. If any friends in Frankfurt let them check with India consulate there. But the closest is Berlin for you. One last word, I am sharing my experience and always a person in Indian consulate can get us out trouble quick. Try if you can get their help(I know these people are pain) through some community. | ||
