This is a bold statement that could be music to India but a bad signal for the Pakistani establishment, including their Army. Interestingly, this also signifies that the Pakistan-centric lobby is losing its grip over Kashmir politics. According to a PTI report â The chairman of Anjuman Minhaj-e- Rasool, an Islamic organisation working for peace and communal harmony, today said that if given a chance the residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) would love to join the Union of India. âIf a plebiscite is held in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, more than 99 per cent people there would vote to become a part of the Union of India,â said Maulana Syed Athar Dehlavi, who is the chairman of the organisation. Dehlavi was in Jammu as a part of his five-day visit to flood affected areas of Jammu & Kashmir, where he also said that the separatists in Kashmir have lost their popularity among the people in the Valley as they are keen to see good governance and development reach their State. âThe separatists in Kashmir have lost their ground and the people in the Valley are discussing issues like good governance, development and education. They are not bothered about what a handful of people are saying,â Dehlavi said. At a time when Pakistan has been trying to internationalise the issue, this news completely blows their cover. The good work done by the Indian army during the floods had drawn lot of respect and admiration. Given the conditions their counterparts are in PoK surely justifies their feeling. âThe people are praising the army as their savior. The army has done a wonderful job in Kashmir. The people in Kashmir have now realised that the army is their real savior,â Dehalvi said. For Pakistan, this could be one of the many reasons to get panicky and hence the sudden rise in the âKashmir rantâ. On the other hand, clear signals from US to favour Indiaâs stand on Kashmir, to honour the bilateral nature of the dispute and the possibilities of deepening intelligence sharing procedures with India has unruffled Pakistan badly. There is a possibility that organisations such as these which were working in Kashmir and didnât accept the âAzad Kashmirâ ideology are gaining strength to come out and voice their opinion. It may just be the initial signals of changing ground conditions in Jammu & Kashmir. |
