గంటకు 200 కిలోమీటర్ల వేగంతో గాలి వీస్తుంటే.. దానికి ఎదురొడ్డి ఎవరైనా నిలవగలరా? ఆ గాలి శబ్దం వింటుంటే- మృత్యువు నడిచివస్తున్నట్ల�� � అనిపించింది. నా జీవితంలో అలాంటి గాలిని ఎప్పుడూ చూడలేదు. హుద్‌హుద్‌లాంటి తుపాను ఎప్పుడూ ఎదురుకాలేదు. ఈ గాలుల ధాటికి- ప్రతి రోజు ఠీవీగా, నిటారుగా నిలబడే కరెంటు స్తంభాలు పూచికపుల్లల్లా ఎగిరిపోయాయి. కొన్ని మెలికలు తిరిగిపోయాయి. ఇంకొన్ని యుద్ధంలో వీరసైనికుల్లా నేలకు ఒరిగిపోయాయి. వేల ఇళ్లలో అద్దాలు తునాతునకలయిపోయాయ�� �. వాటర్‌ట్యాంకులు బంతుల్లా ఎగిరిపోయాయి. ఎక్కడి దాకానో ఎందుకు.. నా స్టడీ రూమ్‌ అద్దాలు పగిలిపోయాయి. ఇదంతా ఒక పార్శ్వం. ప్రకృతి శక్తిని మానవుడు ఇంకా జయించలేకపోయాడు అనడానికి ఒక నిదర్శనం. కానీ దీనికి ఇంకో పార్శ్వం కూడా ఉంది. అది ఆశ. 37 ఏళ్ల క్రితం ఒక అర్థరాత్రి దివిసీమ ఉప్పెన వచ్చింది. దానిలో వేలమంది చనిపోయారు. అది వచ్చిన 37 ఏళ్ల తర్వాత ఒక మధ్యాహ్నం హుద్‌హుద్‌ వచ్చింది. వేల మంది బతికారు. అది చావు. ఇది బతుకు. ఈ చావు బతుకుల మధ్య మనం సాధించిన సాంకేతిక ప్రగతి అపారం. అపురూపం. హుద్‌హుద్‌ వస్తుందని దాదాపు 15 రోజుల ముందే శాస్త్రవేత్తలు ప్రపంచానికి చెప్పగలిగారు. అనుక్షణం దానిని ఓ కంట కనిపెట్టగలిగారు. దాని తీరుతెన్నులు, వేగం, గమ్యం - ఇలా ఒకటేమిటి.. దాని ఆనుపానులన్నీ మనకు తెలుసు.
హ్యూస్టన్‌, ఆసే్ట్రలియా, హైదరాబాద్‌- ఇలా రకరకాల ప్రదేశాల నుంచి బంధువులు, స్నేహితులు అనేక మంది నాకు ఫోన్‌ చేశారు. వైజాగ్‌లో ఉన్న మాకు ఏం జరుగుతోందో తెలియదు. కానీ వారికి తెలుసు. ఒకప్పుడు మనకు విపత్తులు ఎప్పుడూ వస్తాయో తెలియదు. ఎంత తీవ్రతతో విరుచుకుపడతాయో తెలియదు. ప్రస్తుతం అందుబాటులో ఉన్న విజ్ఞానంతో వాటిని మనం జయించలేకపోవచ్చు. వాటి గురించి ముందే తెలుసుకోగలిగాం అనే ఆలోచన ఏనుగంత బలాన్ని ఇస్తుంది. వాటిని జయించే అవకాశం ఉందనే భావనే మనను ముందుకు నడిపిస్తుంది. ఒక స్తంభం లేచిపోతే మరో స్తంభాన్ని పాతుతాం. ఒక విమానాశ్రయం కూలిపోతే మరొకటి నిర్మించుకుంటాం. కానీ నిరాశ ఆవరిస్తే ఒక్క అడుగు కూడా ముందుకు వేయలేం. ఈసారి ఎందుకో నాకు ఆ నిరాశ కలగలేదు. తుపాను వచ్చి వెళ్లిన 48 గంటల్లో పాలు మామూలు రేట్లకే అమ్మటం మొదలుపెట్టారు. గుంటూరు, మైదుకూరు, నెల్లూరు- ఇలా రకరకాల ప్రాంతాల నుంచి వేల మంది సిబ్బంది హుఠాహుటిన వచ్చి మరమ్మత్తులు చేపట్టారు.. ఇంకో వారం రోజుల్లో కొంత ప్రశాంతత రావచ్చు.
ఈ హుద్‌హుద్‌ భౌతికంగా తీవ్ర నష్టాన్ని కలిగించి ఉండచ్చు. కానీ మానవ సంకల్పాన్ని మరో సారి గుర్తుకు కూడా తెచ్చింది. నేను ఏ రాజకీయ పార్టీకి అభిమానిని కాను. కానీ- ఒక ప్రధాని వచ్చి కలెక్టర్‌ ఆఫీసులో కూర్చుని రివ్యూ మీటింగ్‌ పెట్టడం నేను చూడలేదు. తుపాను వచ్చిన ప్రాంతాల్లో ఒక ముఖ్యమంత్రి రోజుల తరబడి మకాం ఉండి సహాయక చర్యలు స్వయంగా పర్యవేక్షించటం చూడలేదు. ఈ సారి అనుభవాలతో విపత్తులను ఎదుర్కోవటానికి ఒక బ్లూబుక్‌ను తయారుచేయమని చెబుతానని ప్రధాని మోదీ చెప్పటం నన్ను ఆకట్టుకుంది. జీవితంలో అనేక సవాళ్లు ఎదురవుతాయి. వాటిని ఎదుర్కోగలగటమే ధీరత్వం అది మనకుందని హుద్‌హుద్‌ మరో సారి గుర్తుచేసింది
