I have read somewhere that it was during Srikrishna Deva Raya's reign that Telugu was heavily Sanskritized on his directive. He specially appointed Brahmins for the task. He believed that Sanskrit was the language of the Gods and he wanted his favorite language to be close to the language of the Gods.

sanskrit is the mother of all langs anedi oka pedda boothu ! forget dravidian languages, most of the present day indian languages were branched out from the Prakrit. Sanskrit was an artificial one created for some special purposes. no wonder it is dead now.

I think India is the only country in the world with plenty of languages and each one has it's great history and value. We have to make sure that all the languages should live long and get more popular. But at the same time utmost importance should be given to Sanskrit, which is mother of all languages and also our rich literature was written and has been there since inception of Hinduism.

And yeah, to be frank, .. Sanskrit is seen as a "Brahmin language" today. And a few others will be irked by that. No point in stoking fires of hatred.

I guess because it levels the playing field - since majority cannot converse in Sanskrit, everyone will have the same difficulty learning it

When not even one percent of population can understand Sanskrit is it practical to make it a link language......The solution to Indian language problem is let education system promote Hindi among non non-Hindi speakers and one South Indian language of their choice for Hindi speakers.....making sanskrit as link language for governance is height of absurdity......Use local languages in states, issue government orders in 5-6 Indian classical languages
