OK, ayithe $4000 principal ki vellindhi. If your initial loan amount was $22000 then current balance is $18000. When you trade in, you will get 17500. All you need to pay to the bank is $500. so, you will be left with 4500(from 5000 check) You will pay this for the difference amount towards new car. Then where are you loosing that 4200? | ||

I am assuming that you will be paying same amount as monthly payments towards the new car. Yes, what ever you paid so far is in the $17k you are offered. Normally most cars depreciate faster than your EMI payments in the first two years. given all other parameters same, new one is better option. Think about it other way. By fixing it, how much you will be increasing the car's value? My guess is not much. | ||

OT - simple question. Are you getting $17k for your car on as is basis or not? if so then it's not bad. you will keep the insurance check and get $17k towards trade-in. all you are losing is the EMI in the last year but it's cost of owing a vehicle. If you have to fix the car before getting $17k, it's a different equation | ||
