Here is some calculation : Example a Restaurant Original Mean Say - $50 coupon Deal - $25 If in a given span of 90 days. the number of people that may visit this restaurant could be 150 families buying at riginal cost = 150 * 50 = 7500. But with the deal even alteast the volume will be 4 times the original 600 * 25 = 15000. Half should be given to Groupon. That leaves 7500 to Resturant. But I saw Resuarant increasing thier Menu Price after Groupon so a $50 , consumer get a food for $35-38 in reality. So Restaurants can offset thier losses there. The only Advatage is visibility , in most of the cases there may not be a profits. Group on Model is very difficult to sustain in long run unless they diversity | ||

So some people might be hesitant to try it.. this gives them an opportunity to try it And creates huge awareness in the area Also, i am creating a deal with multiple visits. i.e, 3 groupons or 5 groupons package deal.. but they can only use 1 groupon per visit. I am excluding the drinks from the deal.. so if customers buys drinks with the food then it is additional sales. Ans as per stats, 10-20% don't use their multi-visit groupons...just like gift cards. Ok, here is a simple example that will explain the biz model: Restaurant - Burger joint Regular prices: Some Burger - 6.00 Fries - 2.00 Soda - 2.00 Total - 10 dollars Now groupon tells them, they can offer a combo deal for 4.50 (burger, fries, drink).. So customer gets 5.50 discount.. i.e 55% off Customer is happy. Let's look at what happens behind the door. Customer pays 4.50. Groupon takes 40-50% of that.. So groupon gets 2.00 or 2.25 per every groupon purchase. Biz owner gets 2.25 or 2.50. Doesn't sound very profitable for biz owner - but groupon deal is structured in such a way that, your food cost is covered and you make small profit on every purchase. Say for 10.00 combo deal, food cost is 15% i.e 1.50. Restaurant still makes .75 to 1.00 It is not much but it drives traffic, new customers, over spending. Customers can only use one groupon per visit. So if they come with a family, they have to pay regular price for remaining people. So that's over spend.. As someone said, good for new business or someone who needs volume. Most of the time they sell 2000-5000 groupons for good deal. Above example is very small. Most of the time groupon gets 3-4 dollars per groupon. Imagine how much money Groupon makes on the volume by just posting an ad. Don't say you don't have enough time. that's what i thought. May be true in some cases but not all.. groupon has strict criteria to approve the deals with real prices rather than inflated prices. Any regular groupon customers here? I have only read about groupon in news until yesterday.. Never actually bought any groupons. Always thought they never carry real deals.. I was so wrong. Yesterday i met with Groupon team to partner with our Crepes store to launch a groupon deal for new location and i was surprised to understand business model of Groupon. They make ton of money by just posting a deal on the website.
