Leonardo is the DDL on this side of the pond. His portrayal as Howard Hughes was a sure shot Oscar. Unfortunately Oscar Committee was criticized as Color blind when Remember The Titans/Denzel was not selected. People were pissed off I guess. Then to make things right, they started giving to black folks no matter. Two wrongs doesnt make it right. No offence to Forest Whitaker or Jamie Fox but Leo's performance was way better. It would have been an insult to him if he won yesterday. On the other hand, Cate Blanchett's performance was legendary. She did not win because she was american [in fact she is oz]. The unbelievable fact is Tom Hanks not being nominated and on the other hand Christian Bale was nominated. MArtin Scorcese himslef got nominated for Oscars 8 times and won only once (Departed). All his contemporaries like Spielberg won several but not him. But people who worked under him won several. He is trying to make a Robert Deniro out of Leo. He is used to have repeated cast for his movies - Jack Nicholson, Deniro, Joe Peschi etc. Leo came very close in Aviator, Departed and Blood Diamond. This was a single note performance from LDC in this movie...an over the top bombast throughout...shades choopinche scope ledhu...that coupled with the fact that WOWS was a terrible movie...having seen both WOWS and DBC, McConaughey's was a much better, nuanced performance..
