The TRS is hoping polls will be separate for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. “The TRS will exist. The TRS will fight elections as a separate party. It is not an agitation party anymore; it is now a pucca political party,” said KCR, a two-time MP. The other party MP, Vijayashanti, is now with the Congress. The window for a post-poll alliance, however, remains open. A committee has been formed to discuss, if necessary, such opportunities with parties that may include the Congress, KCR said. The committee has K Keshava Rao, Etala Rajender and B Vinod Kumar. “There are many ways of expressing our gratitude to Sonia Gandhi. We may even support the next government at the Centre if it is led by the Congress,” KCR said. In Telangana, he said, the TRS need ally with no one. It has been a rollercoaster ride for KCR and the Telangana movement he spearheaded for the last 13 of its 60 years. He began in the Congress, and was Youth Congress vice-president in 1978-79. He lost his first election in 1983, then joined the newly launched TDP in 1984 after completing his MA in Telugu literature from Osmania University. He has never lost since, returning the MLA from Siddipet in 1985, 1989, 1994 and 1999. He was deputy speaker before he quit the TDP over differences with N Chandrababu Naidu, and launched the TRS in 2001 with the purpose of fighting for a separate state. In 2004, he won the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat; in 2009, he won Mahbubnagar as well as a byelection. KCR supported the first UPA government and became known as a cabinet minister without a portfolio. He quit in 2006 accusing the Congress of not being serious about creating a new state. At home, his fortunes fluctuated. In 2008, the TRS’s 26 MLAs and five MPs resigned demanding the state. Will Sonia Gandhi wreak vengeance on KCR ? Anything can happen in political arena. Enemies turn into friends and the grim hostility may crop up suddenly between those very close friends. The bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh appears to have forced several companies floated by Seemandhra entrepreneurs to rethink on continuing their registered offices in Hyderabad. They are now exploring options to move out of Hyderabad to the proposed capital of the residuary Andhra Pradesh. Reason: if they continue to operate their registered offices in Hyderabad, they would have to pay taxes to the Telangana government. So, if they shift their base to the new Seemandhra capital, they would be contributing to the kitty of the residuary State. However, these companies will continue to do their business in Hyderabad as usual and pay customs duty, central excise and service tax to the Centre as in the past. They would only be moving their registered offices to the new capital. According to sources, Krishnapatnam Port, Navayuga group are reportedly contemplating to move their registered offices to Seemandhra region while Kesineni Group is planning to move its registered office to Vijayawada. A group of companies have met in Hyderabad on Saturday to discuss their future plans. Several of these companies are members of CEOs Club and Young Presidents' Organisation. Industrialists and trade bodies of the Telangana region today opposed special category status announced by the Centre to the residual state of Andhra Pradesh, while demanding a similar status to Telangana. They said that the status which consists of a host of incentives and tax holidays to industries may have a cascading effect in the Telangana region since industries in the region will not be able to compete with those enjoying huge tax benefits in residual Andhra Pradesh. "All tax incentives will form around 15 per cent of the sales revenue of a company. It is certain that nobody will come forward to set up units in Telangana if the neighbouring state offers incentives. Industries already in Telangana would also try to shift to Seemandhra due to the incentives," Hyderabad-based Pennar Group's Chairman J Nrupendra Rao said. My Home Group chairman Rameshwar Rao said that entire South India along with Telangana would be adversely affected if the Centre would go ahead with special category status to the Seemandhra region. Rao and other speakers spoke about the issue while addressing a seminar on industrial development in Telangana. Telangana Industrialists' Federation (TIF) president K Sudheer Reddy said that they opposed special status to Seemandhra, because there has to be a level paying field for both regions. "We are not against any financial package for the Seemandhra region, but there must be a level playing field," he said. Reddy said that Telangana deserved 'special category status' since it has more backward districts as compared to the Seemandhra region. Senior BJP leader K. Sarvarayudu has appealed to all public and private sector industries and companies to shift their administrative offices and head offices from Hyderabad to other suitable place in Seemandhra region. Addressing a media conference here on Monday, Mr. Sarvarayudu said Andhra Pradesh Paper Mills, Avanti Foods, Coramandal Fertilizers, pharmaceutical companies such as Hetero, Reddy’s Labs, Arabindo and major Oil companies ONGC, Reliance, GAIL, British Petroleum, HPCL and GSPC should shift their offices from Hyderabad to any one of the cities in Seemandhra.
