The idea behind Whatsapp, is not just another Wifi based Text Messaging Service. It is data. Data that starts with a mobile phone number of the smart-phone, and thereby all conversations and interactions of the owner of the smart-phone with everyone else on the planet, on a cheaper than regular Text Messaging Service implemented on all permeable Data (Wifi) services worldwide. May not have been the first attempt with this idea. But certainly best technical implementation amongst the competitive lot. A perfect combination of market, situations, idea and effort, all falling into place at the perfect time is what is pure luck. What's next is FB is sniffing your whatsapp conversations to sell better relevant ads.
