I don't work in VA ..but yes I do work with a lot of ex-servicemen and women and know a lot of military families- have ex-servicemen in the immediate family too...But I have never asked them whether security of their family is more important or a general memorial is

no offense, but yes it is. Soldiers live by pride, and they are proud of what they offer to the country. The least we could do is to remember their sacrifices. Indian government does take care of the families that loose their loved ones in a war, but if anyone asks is it enough, it can never be enough. Unfortunately the rest of the citizenry does not care enough or even understand the sacrifices done by the military. The memorial is a symbol, which reminds the sacrifices being done. The families who lost their loved ones, find more peace and happiness when their son's/daughter's life is recognized, it carries more worth them than most monetary help. Captain Vikram Batra's father, whose son was awarded Param Vir Chakra words . "I feel my son's alive every time when someone approaches me and talks to me about him. I dont see him anymore, I dont talk to him anymore, but I feel him and my happiness increases everytime someone recognizes me because of him". Neighbors of Captain Batra, worked with military and renamed their street on his name, and installed a statue in their small junction where he played as a kid. now why is that done? the least we can do show such gratitude towards their families, and not just some monetary gain.
