JM - i can empathise with the audience on this one. The movie is so tiresomely repetitive in its screenplay that after a point, one ends up laughing at the wrong scenes. Why should the audience show any sensitivity when the director does not. There was not one moment in the movie when Scorcese showed any kind of sensitivity or empathy towards any of the characters. He played out the movie as a school yard joke, an American Pie version of Wall Street... My review earlier this week that i had posted on this forum Wolf of Wall Street - review Things you can and should consider doing instead of watching Wolf of Wall Street – see Annie Hall twice (it is indeed that good), run a full marathon (probably twice for a Kenyan), take the metro and do a full round trip of Delhi and go to a dentist, even if you don’t need one… That is the movie in a nutshell - long, tedious, painful and unfunny. The screenplay of the movie goes like this – sales pitch on the trading floor to the team, orgies and general debauchery, cocaine snorting and pill popping, hangover. Now put this on loop for 3 hours, that is the whole damn movie. There is nothing in the movie that could not have been said in 2 hours or even 30 minutes. Probably Scorcese felt he had to be faithful to the source book, but hey this is not War and Peace or Lord of the Rings, it is a book unheard of by most. At the end of the 3 hours you have a hallucinatory experience, almost as if some of the coke blew of the screen. If one goes to the movie expecting a ringside view of how the financial crisis unfolded, they are in for a surprise. The movie is more like a primer on how to get doped, categories of pills, nature of hangover and cure for hangovers etc. The entire Wall Street coverage is simplified, trivialized, dumbed down to the level of idiocy. There is no insider look at the workings of the financial world, no look at board room politics, how customers are screwed etc etc etc. The entire mock serious or just mock tone of the movie makes it look like a Judd Apatow movie but a lot less funny. The lines are not witty, there is no dramatic movement to the story, I can go on and on. I would have loved to see a Paul Thomas Anderson version of this book or events. Thelma Schoonmaker must have dozed off on her tailoring machine. Actually what the movie needs is not a pair of scissors but a chainsaw massacre. I could have made peace with a shorter movie. There are some moments that induced collective groans in the theatre (like the scene between Jonah hill and the pill peddler or the one where Di Caprio stumbles his way to his car). In fact just cutting the 4 letter words from the movie would make it an hour less, no kidding. I thought Platoon held this record, WOWS makes Platoon look like Doordarshan. It is time Scorcese realized that endless 4 letter words in the movie do not make the movie edgy, it is just irrelevant and do not push the story forward it any way. After a point, the audience feels abused. Leonardo Di Caprio does a fantastic job, pity that his efforts are being wasted here. Rest of the cast, I would rather not remember. | ||

Movie is definitely great technically but the matter was distasteful , the reaction of some in the audience was ridiculous, it was supposed to be dark humor, some scenes u could laugh but the sociopathic scenes, lolling is very distasteful | ||

It's cult classic movie but not for everyone. In natu words..masters kurrol ki ekkuddi, india h1 batch ki ekkaka povachhu. simple bit lengthy but fcuking awesome movie. |
