Sorry, a players efforts will be proportional to the importance a series/format receives. Federer/Nadal will push themselves more to the limit in singles rather than doubles. Tests are like Ranji Trophy/County matches, really. It is only really cricket geeks who care for it. Just like SRT never cared for T-20s [think of it as your dad/earlier generations not caring for smartphones/iphone], MSD really cannot be bothered about tests I believe - think of the gen x guys who dont care for landlines. Anyways, your points remind me of a conversation I had with a Dravid/Lara fan who kept arguing in 2005 that Lara/Dravid will end their careers as better players than SRT. It's the same X factor that differntiates a knock of KP's from mediocre cricketers like Cook/Trott. You wouldn't know it if you only look at a scorecard and not the knock. I think Cook has a higher average than KP, but is he a better player? I don't think so. KP/MSD/AB Devilliers/Gayle/Sehwag - if you measure these people by numbers alone, you surely have lost the argument right there! In my book, MSD will walk into my test team straightaway. Prior, sorry. As for your claim 2003-2010 - India was merely a great team. The team Gilchrist played was THE greatest of all time, arguably. Do you remember the Lord's test where Prior hit a century against us in the second innings? Has MS done that in his career? What X factor are you talking about when Prior has a better strike rate compared to Dhoni. Dhoni, the white ball slayer is a beast and he is second to none but as a test player he is average at best. P.S: I'm not even gonna get into Gilli & dhoni comparisons; their stats tell the story. 2003-2010, Dhoni was part of a great test team but he didn't have even one stand out performance. 90 odd at centurion didnt stop the team from losing the test. 70 odd did save the match but it was more of a gift from the rain Gods rather than his doing. | ||

I think Prior can never play a MSD 224 Chennai kind of knock. There is something called X factor. MSD has that in spades. Prior not so much. I can list out so many times Gilchrist failed. In 2001 test series Gilchrist hit a 100 in Mumbai and followed that up with 0, 0 and 1 and 1. What does that say? Nothing. MSDhoni is the right handed Gilchrist. If India had the team Aus had in 99-2008, MS Dhoni's knocks like 91 in South Africa and 77 in England would be match winning. We will wait and see.
