 Very true- it is conditioning though the other way...my house is littered with Manga drawings of my older one and this artist's representation is very close to that style so automatically equates to anime/cartoons in my mind...so it is hard for me to to take them seriously I personally find even the older representations powerfully evocative - and its not like all of them are pleasant - the sakteya ones are pretty horrific but the abstract concepts are brought out very clearly...e.g. realised over Devi navaratri that many who worship Lalitha Devi do not know the significance of why Shiva is lying there- the older ones atleast make you question - the newer Raja Ravi Varma style ones 'sanitise' the imagery and you lose the concept under the silks and the jewellery But Raja Ravi Varma's representation is PG rated so I stick with those representations in the puja room and my own art as well - so I am guilty of the said sanitisation too The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet : James Oppenheim | ||
