Boycott Narendra Modi conclave, Kancha Ilaiah urges dalits TNN | Aug 11, 2013, 02.05 AM IST HYDERABAD: On the eve of NarendraModi's much publicized 'Nava BharathYuvaBheri' in the city, well-known Dalit rights activist KanchaIlaiah urged OBCs, SCs and STs to boycott the BJP's prime ministerial candidate's conclave. Modi should make his stand clear on marginalized sections and minorities before embarking on his south India sojourn, he said. Talking to media on Saturday, Ilaiah said the country should not endorse BJP's projection of Modi as the country's first OBC PM as the latter has been against reservation in the past. "During the Mandal protests in 1990, he did not support reservation. Even in 2007 when a proposal was mooted for reservation, all OBC leaders but Modi supported it. Hindutuva forces have always been against reservation," he said adding that marginalized sections are now able to secure education and jobs largely through reservation. "Gujarat does not implement reservation at all. So there is no significant representation from the OBC sections in all India services from there,"he said. The activist also alleged that Gujarat CM turned his state into a "vegetarian" by destroying choice-based food plurality of different people. Ilaiah cast doubts over the security and development of religious minorities in Gujarat. "It is not just the Muslims but Christians too who live in a state of fear in Gujarat today. There is no minority commission in Gujarat nor is there a budget for minority welfare as there is in AP," he said. On the Telangana episode, the activist criticized BJP for remaining mute to Congress' actions in the state bifurcation issue. "Modi has taken no stand against abolishment of the caste through emancipation of the marginalized. He has alienated the minorities of the country. What will be the fate of these sections of people should he become PM? BJP is bringing him to the city to merely intimidate the minorities here," he said. |
