There are so many airports in the world which are situated in a very tricky locations....its the job of the airlines to employ skilled pilots to those locations....overshooting runway and again trying to take off says the inexperience of the pilot....would also like to know the conversations in cokpit during the accident... In USA there was one flight accident in south carolina where the pilots cant see the runway cause of pure visibility and crashed the plane...also they were having casual conversations in the plane while landing it....after that event a law was passed where theres absolutely no casual talk while landings....donno if india has that rule....aroung 20% of air india pilots are not indians....may be its also something which the air india folks need to look into as they wont be much aware of the regions.... | ||

Its is a table-Top runway on a mountain. any error in landing the plane can be catastrophic. Air india express(smaller version of airindia flights) overshot the runaway... too bad. may the souls rest in peace and condolenses to the bereaved fellow brethren of our country | ||

IT MEANS IT OVER SHOT THE RUNWAY It means either 1) The plane exceeded V1 speed and was committed to takeoff and a problem happened. After V1, there is no room to stop on the runway....the captain takes his hand off the throttle and is committed to fly. 2) The plane landed long....typically does not result in fireball type crash. Confirmed. Woke up to this news. All 173 passengers feared killed. Survivors a possibility. They are still searching through the rubble. Air India flight 892 from Dubai to Mangalore on the south west coast of India, landing at 0630 hrs, skidded off the runway while landing, and crashed into a valley nearby. Rescue operations are difficult due to accessibility to the crash site. Low visibility, seems to have triggered the tragedy. | ||
