Ahmed Patel blames BJP for Rajiv Gandhi's death, says he died because of your hatred In a social media post on Twitter, Ahmed Patel slammed the BJP and PM Modi for attacking former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. Patel even indicated that the BJP's hatred led to Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. HIGHLIGHTS Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel slammed the BJP for attacking Rajiv Gandhi Patel said the BJP backed the VP Singh government which denied additional security to Rajiv Gandhi He said abusing the former prime minister is a sign of ultimate cowardice A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi intensified his attack on Rajiv Gandhi, senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for creating an environment that led to the former prime minister's assassination. In a social media post on Twitter, Patel slammed PM Modi and asked: "Abusing a martyred Prime Minister is the sign of ultimate cowardice, but who is responsible for his assassination?" He then explained that the BJP had backed the VP Singh government, which refused to provide additional security to Rajiv Gandhi, leaving him with just one Personal Security Officer (PSO), despite credible intelligence indicating a threat to his life. Patel further added that several requests for providing additional security to Rajiv Gandhi were turned down by the VP Singh-led government. "The BJP backed VP Singh govt refused to provide him with additional security and left him with one PSO despite credible intelligence inputs and repeated requests." The senior Congress leader went on to suggest that Rajiv Gandhi's assassination was "due to their (BJP) hatred". Rajiv ji lost his life due to their hatred and is no longer here amongst us to answer the baseless allegations and abuses which are being unleashed on him," he added. Ahmed Patel's statement on social media comes days after PM Modi and many from the ruling party criticised Congress president Rahul Gandhi's father and called him "corrupt no. 1". On Wednesday, PM Modi accused the Gandhi family of using a warship INS Viraat as its "personal taxi" when Rajiv Gandhi was the prime minister. "Have you ever heard that someone uses INS Viraat to enjoy holiday? It happened when Rajiv Gandhi was the PM of this country? INS Viraat, which was deployed on sea borders, was sent to facilitate a holiday for 10 days," PM Modi said during the rally. "Foreigners were allowed to enter the INS Viraat, was it not a compromise with National security? They put the nation first and security of Indian citizens second," Modi said. |
