True - but that is also because I grew up in multilingual townships and friends :-)

Also , there is another benefit to watching movies you have to read subtitles for - it forces you focus on the movie- great when you really need to switch gears from a wired day at work :-)

Filmbuff:

Yeah - good selection and variety of movies on DD and the art/ parallel cinema of the time definitely shaped my viewing tastes :-)

Lol - true I blame doordarshan for that bug of regional cinema !

True in my case too Anand garu. Every movie - from Assamese to Oriya and Tulu, anni choosevallam. A lot of my cinematic taste can be attributed to that wide-ranging movie watching. In fact even the sequence of movies used to have a pattern - they used to be in alphabetical pattern. Like Telugu used to follow the week after Tamil, and so on. Aa rojullo worst movies ante Marathi, parama chetha ga undevi.

Gandhiguevara:

You asked for recos on movies -

Maj Rati Keteki - excellent Assamese Movie - Adil Hussain Won a national award for this and Mukti Bhavan together - Mukti Bhavan was a good movie too - a different take on death.
Njan Prakashan - nice feelgood movie - was recommended to me by a mallu friend
Fahad faasil excels as usual
Salt Mango Tree -Malayalam old but good movie - the ending should have been better
Hope Aur hum - cute movie about hopes, fears and nostalgia
I Am - Onir’s National award winning anthology of 4 struggles
