Mental_sachinodu:

3) Caste has also played a significant affect on how economy worked and how funds got distributed. I am not talking about today - where the caste lines are not so stark dividers, but even until a generation back they did. That is when folks helped around it would fall within their immediate community which was caste based.

4) Modern India as a nation is very young. Its amazing how fast it changed in the last two generations. If you compare how most people lived couple of generations back to what we see today, you can see most indians did not have enough means to support someone else.

5) Joint Family / Large Families also played a role on how people could make decisions for donations

thank you for endorsing my views on the same :D

Mental_sachinodu:

1) We as a part of socialist society, expect governments to take financial care of underprivileged. in most cases, even middle class families are heavily reliant government provided services.

2) We also have a brush with a feudal society in the not so distant past. Feudal lords were notoriously stringent on how they handled underprivileged - there were good number who took good care of under privileged, but were not in the form of donations which would let them lose control.

Nisarga:

even our charity is for our pride only...its not out of real compassion... this is my personal opinion seeing different people at different levels, and the social, cultural behavior of people.

Multiple reasons

1) We as a part of socialist society, expect governments to take financial care of underprivileged. in most cases, even middle class families are heavily reliant government provided services.

2) We also have a brush with a feudal society in the not so distant past. Feudal lords were notoriously stringent on how they handled underprivileged - there were good number who took good care of under privileged, but were not in the form of donations which would let them lose control.

5) Joint Family / Large Families also played a role on how people could make decisions for donations.

Indians of this generation are doing pretty good when it comes to charity. it will only get better

the fundamental problem with so called Indian's is lack of true self reliance, self esteem,conscience... we are mentally shallow deep down and we need the crutches of material possessions to brag about and feel the sense of achievement. that's why spiritualistic and religious variety came about in India.

Bunty717:

.. tella kurrol ke manakante jaali gunde ekkuva untaadi..

jaali gunde ani vallani over gaa etheyakandi..

Asians are normally groomed to take care of immediate family..extended family..and only in the last 10/15 years we are moving to Nuclear family

Western society has been Nuclear family for few decades now..specially vomerica..because feeful left their roots in Europe or so..basically thaadu bongaram lekunda unnar..vachina wealth ni pancharu..

whereas in vindia..we all have extended families..if someone benefits..they want to extend that to extended family ..rather than some random ferson..

if you see from a Westerner point of view..you will not see this subtle distribution of wealth

my 2 cents on the topic

Jambalahaart_raja:

ppudu asalu dharma sandeham enti ante, why don't privileged Indians give back to underprivileged Indians ani aduguthunnaadu...

Like, plenty of celebrities in NYC, Multi-millionaires. Tax write-off ichhinaa yevadu peddagaa munduku raadu enti ani gola chesthunnaadu... yentha mandini kalisaado yemo mari...

Is it Karma? Is it a cultural thing?

Apaatra-daanam Karnudi Maranam ani vaadiki elaa cheppaali?

What other valid and smooth reasons that Indians don't give back to poor and underprivileged Indians?

why does he think so..

Akshayapatra, Sankara Eye Foundation, Telugu People Foundation, Ekal Vidyalaya

are the ones that I know that my friends actively donate time and effort and money

I donate to the first two and used to volunteer for the first one..

there is one more guy who runs his own org for farmers ..and every weekend he is only doing volunteering for the last 15 years ..maa kirket team lo aadevaadu

TPF and Ekal ki maa kirket team lo ne volunteers unnaru..who donate time/money etc..

so vomerica lo unna vindian citizens chesthunnaru..

if his quechen is about vindians in vindia..akkada kooda chesthunnaru..but may not be advertising as much like Cry or Redcross

Most of them actually start by giving back to the ancestral village...then their community, then their city....

go to any village...u can see schools, hospitals, bus shelters, over head water tanks being donated by people of the village...

ask your aussie mate to go n visit villages....

kikiki
