A).We did both ways. For dubai, we booked through emirates and you pay a fee. This is good for short term stay I.e. 1 or 2 days. As gap days increase, your fee exponentially increase and they have a limit on number of gap days. We booked separate tickets using Fareboom.com for another week long stay in Greece. Price was good as we paid approx. 1000 dollars only extra for 4 tickets compared to straight travel. B) for Dubai, emirates will redirect to gov web site and can get e-visas. We have Indian passports at that time. For other countries, we have usa passport which gave visa on arrival. We rented a car and drovee the country side. C) we booked a hotel and experience package early on. We have to shop for packages online and pick one best. We got currency picked up early even though they take US dollars at some places. All travels pick from your hotel and drop there. Dubai is best for cab travel. It costs very less and availability is huge. If you know somebody locally, you might find better package | ||

We travelled with kids and is our first stopover trip. Later we did with 2 other countries. We made list of spots and covered them but in the end felt 3 days was not enough. Burj Khalifa Sand dunes Gold market Dubai shopping mall Atlantis tour Theme park We checked all our bags but in subsequent trips we pack a suitcase with stopover stuff and leave rest of them checked in. In all situations, you have to check out bags at airport . You can make a choice if you want to carry or store them at locker | ||

we stayed at dubai for 5 days. took hotel apartment near to a metro station and visited all imp places by metro (red line). Metros are convenient to most of the places. Emirates towers, Dubai Mall and top of Burj Kalifa (Burj Kalifa/Dubai Mall station) - 1 day Mall of Emirates and jumeirah beach (Mall of Emirates station) - 1 day. No metro to beach. we have to take cab from mall of emirates. its 10 mins ride. Gold souk and in the evening dubai marina. Gold soak you have to change station and take green line one. Safari - one evening - hotel guys will arrange for it if you ask. | ||

i have a friend who did this just last July.. his kids are a bit grown up..but he took break in Turkey..went around for couple of days and from there he went to Delhi since their family was flying to Delhi from Hyderabad..and they had plans to go around Rajasthan etc on landing..it worked out for them.. but if your final destination is Hyderabad, you still have to make arrangements for Delhi to Hyd.. | ||

Has anyone tried Dubai or similar stop over during Desam trip ? Dubai through Emirates seem to be easier. Costs around 100-200 bucks more for stop over it seems.
