It all depends upon two things: 1. Breed 2. Training In India most of the owners don't really care about training. Similarly th kind of food they give and vaccinations etc. I used to have Golden Retriever. In India we used to have Pomrenians for almost 25 years. Right now I have taken Tea Cup Poodle 3 weeks backs. Amazingly she already leanrt Potty, Ball fetching, Sit, Down, Leave, and lot of other things. Amazing she is only 3 months. Poodles are second most intelligent breed along with Golden. | ||

@Rahul I would wait until the youngest kid is 3 years where you dont have to run behind him/her for everything they will be at a age where they can pickup directions from elders and be gentle with the pup also, "it helps that you may have lesser things to attend to and give more attention to pup " same as your friend suggested , I said same to my friend who was thinking of getting a pup when his youngest was one .... exact reason quoted above good luck it is one of the most wonderful things to experience | ||

//One incident that i can never forget. it was Jan 1st night, we cut a cake for the new years, and were drinking some champagne. Wife made pieces for everyone, and usually Bella waits for her cream when there is cake around. My wife was about to give her cream, she made sudden bow, and got in to sitting position and was just staring at my wife. she was not paying attention to her cream, but just staring at my wife with bowed head. She rose slowly, retreated back, and came to me and was staring at me, and started rubbing her face to my knees, as I was talking to some guests. There were about 8 or 10 people, everyone was watching what was happening. I bent to touch her face, she gave me her paw, and i realized she was not in playful mood. I tried to make her cheerful, asking if she wanted to eat some cream, or peanut butter. there was no interest and i could sense she was not comfortable. I sat on the floor trying to understand what she wants, and she came by myside, and laid her head in my lap and sighed. He eyes were locked on my wife. I was not sure what was going on. In about 10 mins, my wife said, she is feeling pains, and we need to go to the hospital. My was in her 9th month, and her due date was a couple of weeks away. My daughter was born that night. // wow mental - very touching!! they somehow, somehow know what's going on with our bodies....I read a book last year "what it's like to be a dog" which has many interesting insights on how dog's brains are wired.. anyway, thanks for sharing your story...v moving | ||

sir.. Kukka okka sari vacchaka.. adi chupinche effection ki, you forget everything. you show more love than what you show on kid. Kid mida frustrate avutham kaani.. kukka mida kamu..becoz they behave nicely even when they are kid. My close friend got it recently. Now his life is totally that dog. He take her around and wipe her poop. eat with her. She come and pick from her plate. He cry. He calls 10 times home to enquire abt her. He gets excited while going home. Nenu..felt really odd but never wants to hurt him and tease him. Mi chinna kid puttinappudu poop poyina niku ela cute ga untado.. its same. She comes and lick him like anything and with same hands he comes and offer me something. just imagine my expression. he says nothing will happen with dogs saliva. But dogs get effected with human interaction becoz they have less resistance.. so he litrally make her part of his body.. he scratches everywhere | ||

if your kid is above 2 yrs old or more.. it should be ok. but it does take some effort in the first few months so be prepared for that. I would also get kid friendly breeds. | ||

mine is 8 yr old now.. a GS and Chow Chow mix. got from a rescue center. everyone who meets her give me complements on how well behaved she is. we did a lot together, ran 100s of miles. she is stubborn as hell when it comes to others. Probably true to the nature of the Chow, she is a one man dog. she is friendly with everyone but trusts me the most and follows my directions to the tee, but not so much when directions come from the rest of the family. she was with me when my kids were born, i was a bit nervous on how she would do with kids. she turned out to be amazing. she is always very careful and sits behind them. when kids or playing with her, just lays down let them do anything on her body. when she is uncomfortable comes over to me and sits beside me. My daughter was born that night. personally, I prefer to always pick a puppy from a rescue center, as they are in dire need of help.If my kids are older and if i can manage, i would get a rescue adult. For first timers though - it is safer to get a pure breed that aligns with their life style. they are as much responsibility as they are fun.
Golden retrievers are one of the most gentle creatures on earth. you can never go wrong with them. | ||

Recently went to car servicing saw some one bring a bernese mountain puppy.. 7 month old puppy was almost as big as a mid size adult lab.. but such a baby.. so cute and sweet Owner said ithat pup would grow to be a 100 pounder.. He has trust issues so konchem kastam with strangers and visitors, but absolutely fine with wife and I. first choose what kind of breed u like or u r kids like small are cute but hard to train big ones are easy to train but kids cant play with them i have golden cavapoo( cavaliar king charles spainard and poodle mix) 13 lbs, 1 1/2 yr old, very cute, barks at strangers when he is in doubt very friendly and plays with kids, sleeps with me on the bed, go on rides in my car every day first year will be hard since they pee every 2-3 hrs but after that its good 1) select breed 2) Breeder or rescue sheleter 3) Vet, choose closest one, you need to take him regularly for shots 4) grooming 5) food, we give me wet food( fresh pet) and most of the meat without spices 6) training but overall its great fun for kids .those who are serious about their watches display them prominently, those who are more concerned with style and branding present you with aircraft carriers and hide their watches. | ||

Oka friend rescue ki velli techukunnadu.. they thought he might be some lab mix.. as he grew it was very clear he is more of a pit bull than a lab or any other mix.. but good dog.. If folks are good with that rescue etc is super option.. We were first time owners and my spouse was not totally bought into it.. so we went by her choice etc.. picked a designer cross breed ( cockapoo).. we love our pup | ||
