Yes. Dem representatives should agree to allocate 5B in this case. If you go through any of the polls, public is not agreeing with the shutdown. Now, Trump is not backing down. Dems should be wise and let this go. Airports are shutting down some TSA checkpoints. Airlines are losing money. Employees don't know when they may get their pay. They need to put food on their tables and pay their mortgages/rents. Farmers losing money because they can't get their subsidies. National parks, Tourism, animal welfare/protection... Students are facing issues with lack of financial support (scholarships). They don't know if they are enrolled this semester or not. After all that 15-20 mins effort I took in putting the previous post together, you say this !!! What compromise ?? Are you saying we should give trump whatever he wants.. what is the point of having a Congress?? it is painstakingly obvious that you not only don't know but don't even want to know about how they came up with 5.7B number. I will share from what i read What is trump's 5 billion: the Trump administration wants to build hundreds of miles of border barriers , a lot more than $5 billion can provide. But it has identified particular stretches of the border as top priorities, and a $5 billion appropriation would allow to get to some of them The Department of Homeland Security estimates that if it got the whole $5 billion, I it would be able to build 215 miles worth of barriers along the US-Mexico border. Most of this, about 150 miles, would be built where no physical barriers currently exist; the rest would be intended to replace some of the older and less imposing barriers along the border. The administration's order of priority is building - about 104 miles of barriers in the Rio Grande Valley i27 miles of barriers in the Yuma sector in Arizona, 14 miles in the El Centro sector in eastern California 55 miles of barriers in the Laredo sector in western Texas. five miles in the San Diego sector and nine miles in the El Paso sector (far west Texas and New Mexico). The above is what 5Billion is going to get you. That is all!! And it is going to be steel slats( most recent what we have heard) instead of concrete!! That is not going to do much. Last year, Democrats promised 25 odd billion over 10 yrs in exchange to DACA that was rejected.by president.. I will get to it below what Democrats are willing to give : 1.3 billion just as much as was given last year ( senate asked for 1.7, but that is a closer compromise). This would be part of a stopgap funding package for the Department of Homeland Security that would reopen the department through February 8. While it's generally logical to continue funding at existing levels, though, it doesn't easily lend itself to inking new government contracts to build massive new infrastructure. The 1.3billion that DHS got for border barriers in fiscal year 2018 is still being allocated , but it's estimated to come out to 84 miles of barrier. But you can't just build that same barrier again with another $1.3 billion, and it's not clear whether either Democrats or Republicans are going to drill down on what exactly they want that money to pay for. The 341 million from 2017 and 1.3 billion from 2018 is still not allocated. Even if he takes this 1.3, it will keep it going for anothe 2 years!!! Now go back to 25billion over 10 yrs. if he has taken that he would have more than what he could spent!!! Why did he not budge. In his own words, he didn't want to be identified as 'amnesty president' Now look at shutdown: Most of those who side trump use a favorite catch phrase about 'vote bank '. Who is working on vote bank?? Continuing bush and Obama strategy is the right one. Rather than focusing on wall , focus on border control .. Border crossings are at all time low and conintinuing to decrease. The strategy can be tweaked overtime like any othergovernment acts!!
