Erdogan has launched some vengeful attacks on the judges and army and has locked many up on false cases so that they do not stand in his way. Now he also wants to amend the constitution so that he can become President now as against the PM that he is. Coupled with all of this, the frenetic growth has slowed down over the past one two years. Turkey is still a young country with a lot of European values and all these have upset the youth there.. | ||

@ Film Buff: Brazil and Turkey are countries which are more developed than us, are richer, more liberal, but still they are erupting in protest over seemingly minor issues but which are symptoms of a bigger problem. Corruption is not a big issue in these countries, they are relatively clean by Indian standards. With the kind of corruption and poverty that we have in India, the lack of job creation, rising unemployment etc. i am surprised at the absolute lack of revolutionary tendencies among the general populace. /// --- Exactly .. With the kind of corruption and poverty that we have in India, the lack of job creation, rising unemployment etc. i am surprised at the absolute lack of revolutionary tendencies among the general populace. In fact there is ample and a sound business case to be made for a liberal, secular alternative to the congress. Whether it is our Hindu mindset or the non-violent mindset inculcated by Gandhi, we seem to have become inured to a level of poverty and a level of pain that are dismal by any developing country standards. The next 15-20 years are extremely crucial for India to reap the demographic dividend and we need to set policies for that over the next 2-3 years, otherwise we will become another basket case or have already become. | ||
