Do you think a little kid is equipped with knowledge or analytical ability to weigh the risk factors of breaking a rule and then do it ? I guess she is reading wrong books. Keep tab on them. The books tshould actually help you improve positive thoughts. And she needs to be told how much the parents love her and how much she means to them. Also needs to be told how much their life will be shattered if something happens to her. And needs to be told in a better mature way rather than just sentimental talk. Also she needs to be known about the mistake she did and how many books she would have bought for her own with the fine she incurred. Also mom needs a pep talk about not being over reactive. She shouldnt impose hard punishments. She should have in fact known by now how much the books mean to the kid. So, she should also be told about giving chance to kids if they do mistake and make them know that she will keep tabs for a few days on the kids activity until she is sure that no such mistake repeats. My baby is 4+ and she knows when she does any mistake and she only comes forward and apologize before even we insist and try not to repeat it. You can have differences and you can debate them - but once a parent has made a decision - I think it is damaging for the child to see it overturned by another parent... 1 - it tells the kid they can get what they want by playing the parents off each other - I have seen this happen with my uncles kids back in India - amma ki nana oka annadu ani nana ki amma ok andi ani cheppesi panulu kaniche vallu 2 - kids need to learn actions have consequences - and that they cannot wiggle their way out of every mistake they make. 3 - There has to be respect for rules and authority. 4 -Kids need parents not just parents acting like friends - if their parents flipflop on rules - they cannot trust their parents to make sound decisions - they will be more confused than ever. counsin's daughter 9 year old. big time bookworm type girl. every week library nundi 2-3 books techukoni namilesthu vuntundi last week sudden gaa intiki oka notice vachindi anta book long due.. book recovery cost + fine 40 bucks ani. mom got angry and warned the girl 'if u can't keep control of your books then don't bring them from library. if this happens again, NO MORE BOOKS FOR YOU' mom left to office and after some time dad heard ADT alarm sound and started checking entire home... when he came to 2nd floor, he saw the girl trying to open the window when asked what r u doing, she replied 'mom said 'No more books for you. I can't live without books. Why should i live?' blah blah ani crying maa vaadiki almost heart attack... very small incident but scary outcome. oka 3-4 mins late ayi vunna emayyedoo 9 year olds ki ilaanti thoughts emito PS: close cousin's incident.. no kindaling please.
