I said that keeping the whole thread topic and thokkatam etc in context. In my view, no one can stop a smart women from succeeding. My own elder sister is the proof for this. She came to US in early 80s. She completed her Bachelors and Masters in Information systems while working full time AND raising two kids, now she is a team lead. Just an example for what a smart and determined person can do, no matter what the gender is. :-) | ||

Speaking from my own experience, in this day and age, I believe both Men and Women have to put their plans on hold if they choose to have kids, including careers.
Many many career oriented "Men" and "Women" choose to not have kids, I know some personally. If someone chooses to put their plans on hold for kids, it is their conscious choice. Blaming others for that is not right in my view. I am again talking about environment in developed countries here. | ||

Very true - they get off the ladder and start over after a break..this makes it difficult to catch up.. and most of us do that by choice.. Sis, women are better managers, organizers, multi-taskers and are forerunners in bringing much needed stability and equilibrium in any situation. And thats the reason we see women coping much better in adversity and tragedy. Even the most simple women can take charge of the situation and her family rather than fall prey to vices like men do. No complaints with the article or the research nor is it anything new. But i doubt your conclusions that women are wired for leadership. I would change that to 'women are wired for management'". Managers and leaders are two different breeds and there is huge gulf that separates the two. Even the practical experiments (solving a task etc) that are mentioned in the article point more to women being good at management and getting tasks done but not setting the broad direction for the company, taking charge of things, taking aggressive risks (which is an important trait of a leader) etc. I don't have a dog in this fight, but the research that is in the article does not point to your conclusion that women are better leaders. | ||

My take - women tend to make more considered decisions than rash ones .. and also they tend to be more receptive to emotions (theirs and others around them ) There's good research on women's use of their brain being more lateralized - they use the right and left brains in conjunction more than men do - which is why men are generally better at silo-ed, focussed, vertical skillsets while women are better at skills requiring processing multiple input sources and arriving at decisions evaluating all of them What I find interesting is that the effects of spiritual practices are geared towards/or end up achieving that left-right balance in the brain - women were forbidden to do some practises - was it because they do not need them ?
