Simple ga cheppali ante its complicated There are no guarantees to admission into the IVY or Top Tech universities .. evry subjective selection process cos the applicants self scrren before applying - only the really bright students who think who have a shot apply to these schools..so you are competing against the best and the brightest in the country Academics and good SAT scores are a minimum baseline .. then its your other skills that are the differentiators and the mood of the admissions officer at the time he reads your essays Also these schools need-blind admissions and no merit based aid - so unless you have a low income - you do not get anything...Private schools not in the top 5-6 do offer merit based financial aid/scholarships - so pick the school based on what you want... States do give preference to in-state students( a percentage of seats has to be filled with instate ) and tuition is much lower Texas does that by rank in school - so based on the college there is cutoff percentage within which you have to rank in class - Top 6-8% for UT austin, 10 for other Texas state colleges - this does not guarantee the admission tot he majotr you want of the the honors program - just the university - within that pool the top1-2 percent get into the high demand programs or honors We are lucky that UT also ranks in the top 10 in most programs and the Compscie disciplines rank 5-8 - right up there after the top pvt tech universities.. Maths route is better than the business route...getting into a business related undergrad is counterproductive..BBM or MBA is a generalist course and it does not require that kind of intensive study and hence a business path is not that useful. If he can do something like Maths and Economics, even better. Nothing to beat that combo. If he gets into Rice, let me know. I have a friend who is a Prof there. | ||

UT Austin(double honors program), GeorgiaTech, A&M, CMU, Rice(waitlist) Currently leaning towards UT Austin since that is a great program and it is 1 hour from home MIT raledu ani dissappoint ayyadu but I had always said that is a lottery don't bank on it ani ;)

I went to Cal. I wanted to be in California, so that was my biggest factor. -Ves ante... 1) They have a mini-system. So, too much pressure vundocchu. Semester systerm is 16 weeks, Quarter system is 10 weeks, Mini system is 7 Weeks. So, continous gaa deadlines, projects, exams vastune vutayyi. Only university that I know that follows a mini-system. Degree ayyepatiki burn-out avvakodadu. 2) Computational Finance ki it should be a good school. Too good in CS and Quant type of disciplines. If he changes him mind and want something that is less mathematically rigorous Major limited choice vundavacchu. Teenager preferences can change 3) Personal preference: Pittsburg and weather pedda nacchala...edho war lo odipoynia city type l0 vuntundhi...because of all the closed steel industries. +Ves 1) As I mentioned before...top school for CS and Quant tpye of disciplines 2) Very very rich school...so Fellowships chaala istaaru..don't know about under-grad...but definitely for grad study. 3) 8 Economics nobel prize winners are in the B-school faculty. So, inspirational and intimidating at the same time. | ||
