Finished Oath of Vayuputras - Would not recommend it...total mish-mash of philosophies, stories and a forced juxtaposition of science onto the mythology..

LOL - have not watched Seinfeld :-)Though I was only half-joking about the object becoming god

Anand_n garu,

You could start a religion annaru kada, Sienfeld lo oka episode vundi George's father is against christmas and starts his own religion (festivus vs Christmas) and comes with a steel pole instead of x-mas tree. That dialogue was famous "Festivus for the rest of us". Very funny episode

Oath of the Vayuputras - Not done yet but is entertaining to me and will be to some DBers for a reason the author did not intend...

Gatha/Avesta toh na jeedipakam discussions malli rewind ayyayi..vedas/Gathas.. Mithra, Ahura/asura , Devas ...good ol days...

Back to the book - I fail to understand Amish's need to cram in so many streams of mythology into the book and try to make it some grand unified theory...unless the reader is into philosophy/theology , they are likely to miss the allusions :-)Then again they may like the story more...

I am having fun reading because it is like index cards to old discussions :-)

basic theme of the book is about accountability. in large corporations it is normal to pass the buck around. I think the author recommended to have a single person accountability for an issue in the backdrop of Macondo well (BP) spill in GOM.

When I learnt that Tom Hanks was playing the part of Robert Langdon, couldn't be more merrier. Although, movies didn't impress me as much as the books. In fact, the movies missed out on some of the real intricacies, twists of the plots to appease the audiences. Otherwise, they'd surely have created a major ruckus.. A & D lo Camerlengo is the In-vitro Fertilized Son of the Pope!!! Da Vinci lo Jesus has a Wife??!!

Cinema chuste books meda interest undadu - esp these fantasy books become real because of our imagination and visualisation - movie already shows you the visual so your reading experience is diminished anipistundi :-)

I am forever indebted to JK Rowling and Rick Riordan - Harry Potter hooked my older son to reading, Percy Jackson , the youndger one :-)

I loved it - but Coelho's lyrical writing appeals to me on a philosophical/spiritual level - it is not that the plots/storylines are great:-)So what you get out of it will depend on how much the underlying thoughts resonate :-) But its a short book - will take a couple hours at most to read -so try it :-)

Atlas Shrugged chadiva, excellent. Fountainhead chaduvutha probably in May.

I read all books from Jeffrey Archer and John Gresham so far. Both have very good ones and boring ones. I would rate John better than Jeffrey overall.

Among Dan Brown's #1 is A&D in my view followed by DVC. I have all his books and I didn't like his last one.

Been there done that - read over 400 of these - actually used to maintain a log of M&B's I read so I don't get the same ones since they are all so similar - short light reading used to take 1- 1.5 hour to finish :-)

But to balance I would read all my brothers cowboy westerns - sudden , Louis L'amour too :-)

Talk about being a read-o-holic:-)

Back to sheldon - he had strong heroines - hence the appeal for girls :-)

He is a diff league altogether. Didn't want to keep his name on the same line with John/Jeffrey etc (with due respect to them).

God Father was my first ever english novel back in 98/99 time. I used to get frustrated about the bookworm attitude of the girl that i used to hang out with. One day she brought God Father book gift wrapped as a present and said read it then u will understand why i like reading so much.

Never read a novel till then. You can imagine the effect it had on me. Never looked back since then (until recently - got busy with job, kids etc and DB)

Kane n able series was terrific

I like jeffrey archer too, but liked the novels of john grisham more than jeffrey archer... kane and abel loo thought a 'tanikella bharani' kind of charachter would pop in and tell abel... 'kane ante evaro telusaa... aayana chesina help ento telusa... evari valla neee business nilabadindo evari valla neee life set ayindoo athane nayya maa indra sena reddy' :D
jokes apart, it happens though, too late and only after kane dies

John grisham novels lo (atleast initial novels ) narration emo full tension tho saaguthundi but every nook and corner lo subtle humour untundi and thats why I like his novels... ekkada bore kottadu

if not john grisham, I like mario puzo... goddd he's god of god father novels :D... god father and last don are two novels that I read back to back without putting them down :D... you can say I was obsessed by the mafiaso background :D

Don't get me started Fountainhead is my all time fav book - Atlas Shrugged was my first Ayn Rand book ..read it literally day and night till I finished it :-)

Did not particularly like any of her other books though :-)

Favorite ante A&D :-) Da Vinci Code was good but since I read A&D first I though DVC was a little light..

Lost symbol was a letdown but had some high points - fanatic interpretation of the rituals literally was scarily real :-)

Last Symbol was an OK read for me. Disappointing given Dan Brown's past work but not bad IMO except for climax

Up to climax: 3/5
Climax: -10000000000000/5. May be that's bcoz i am an atheist.

try reading his earlier novels like deception point and digital fortress...TFI lo faction sinema la no novelty mish mash of diff writers
