I am saying this with 15 years industry experience in power generation which included 9 different utility scale projects in the US and Canada (worth >$4 billion).

individual homes meeda installation just for feel good, not for economic reasons. of course power cut vunna chota it's much useful, no doubt.

thats why I pointed this in Indian conditions....we have no way of supplying power to all people in india 24/7....these things with renewable energy will help us a lot...having current during power cuts is priceless.....of course govt has to give many subsidies to motivate people..

Ipc302:

yes, meeru cheppedi possible for just one house or one building type. kaakapothe don't expect any rate of return on those installations. pay back period vachi mana grand children generation daaka pattuddi. payback is somewhat quicker if you install a utility scale projects. individual homes meeda installation just for feel good, not for economic reasons. of course power cut vunna chota it's much useful, no doubt. In any case, no renewable energy project is viable without some kind of govt subsidies or tax incentives based on today's available technology. I am saying this with 15 years industry experience in power generation which included 9 different utility scale projects in the US and Canada (worth >$4 billion).

time to make it compulsory for group hosues and apartments...will ease the burden a little on the current power generation.....

you need lots of land rao garu. oka 80 MW plant ki roughly 1200 acres kaavalsi vachindi north america lo.

Also you need infrastructure like transmission and distribution as these plants will be built middle of no where (to save agricultural land)

u dont always need to genrate solar power on such massive scale...start with solar panels on buildings or small pland reas and u will generate some energy that a small community can use...ikkada ma univ parking lotr meedha set up chesaru solar energy...and road meedha pothunte 3-5 acres land lo kooda panels pedthunnaru...india lo prajalaki kooda ee alochana ledhu...summer vasthe malla AC lu kontaru current undadhu emanna ante intlo marble flooring , bathroom lo tiles ettukunnamu ani sodhi cheppataniki ready....

I don't know the ROI for these ventures (talking about our state)....can anyone shed some light?

you need to reverse engineer and see what discount rate you need to make it viable.

cost 120 cr (based on truelies est below)

revenue year 1 to 4: approx 46 crores per year.
Revenue year 5 to 13: approx 15.3 cr per year.

These are based on following assumptions:

capacity factor 35% (CA has about 30% max., I am going with much higher assumption just for heck of it).

No down time for maintenance, zero degradation, operating costs not included.

Now you have to do an NPV calculation based on a discount rate. put the revenue stream from year 1 to 13, deduct the O&M costs, assume a discount rate and based on 120 cr capital calculate the NPV. if it is positive and your discount rate is reasonable then you have a viable project. you will have to do some sensitivity analysis based on varying O&M costs and degradation and major maintenance which will have negative impact on your revenue prediction

(production cost will be 15 paise/unit, rest Rs.4.85/unit is profit)

I doubt this calculation very much. what are the assumptions around maintenance, capacity factor and availability?

I heard that there are few restrictions for private companies to start Solar Power generation units in AP. I don't know the ROI for these ventures (talking about our state)....can anyone shed some light?

Solar Street Light:

This system is designed for outdoor application in un-electrified remote rural areas. This system is an ideal application for campus and village street lighting. The system is provided with battery storage backup sufficient to operate the light for 10-11 hours daily. The system is provided with automatic ON/OFF time switch for dusk to down operation and overcharge / deep discharge prevention cut-off with LED indicators.

The solar street light system comprise of

- 74 Wp Solar PV Module
- 12 V, 75 Ah Tubular plate battery with battery box
- Charge Controller inverter (20-35 kHz)
- 11 Watt CFL Lamp with fixtures
- 4 metre mildsteel lamp post above ground level with weather proof paint and mounting hardware.

The SPV modules are reported to have a service life of 15-20 years. Tubular Batteries provided with the solar street lighting system require lower maintenance; have longer life and give better performance as compared to pasted plate batteries used earlier.

The systems electronic provide for over-charge and over-discharge cut-off essential for preventing battery and luminaries damages.

Highlights:

- This is Charanka village in Patan, where over 2,965 acres, rows of photovoltaic cells or solar panels have been laid out to harness the sun. They are generating 214 MW of electricity every day more than China's 200 MW Golmund Solar park.

- The Gujarat government claims that nearly 17 private and state companies have pumped Rs 9,000 crore as investments in this park.

- Solar plants setup cost: Rs. 12 crores/MW (approx)

- For first 4 years govt will buy @ Rs.15/unit (capital recovery)

- From 5-13 years govt will buy @ Rs.5/unit (production cost will be 15 paise/unit, rest Rs.4.85/unit is profit)
