Verdict: FLOP (2.00/5.00)
My Expectations:
When a movie is void of a good combination, its both an
advantage and a disadvantage. The obvious disadvantage put
aside, the advantage is if the movie is atleast average, the
chances for it to fare well and carry a pretty good talk is
high. A mass hero like Balakrishna pairing up with P Vasu who
has very less telugu nativity touch in his movies, as everyone
would expect, I had no hopes on it. Even fans were
disappointed big time because there was a mammoth gap of 150
days between the audio release and movie release. So if the
movie is atleast average that would augur well to its run and
fate. Also no other Sankranthi movie carrying a good talk
would help it for sure.

My view: Even with low expectations, one cannot deny the hype the movie carries, when the hero is Balakrishna. Starting from titles P Vasu deals with the movie as if it is a documentary. After the entrance of Balakrishna the whole movie goes off the track. Bala character's wig is indicative of how interested was the director in the character. Showing a 10 min Bharatnatyam dance sequel of 'Jayaprada' in 2007 shows how out dated his direction is. The first song comes as a big relief. After Laxmi Narasimha this is the only movie where BalaKrishna excelled in dances. The movie then again reverts to its usualself boring situation. Meera Jasmine love track, dual role scenes of Balakrishna reminds you of a recent Allari Bullodu and also Rowdy Alludu. The interval episode would remind you of a similar scene in Chanti where heroines runs into a room and locks herself up. The interval episode ends with a hint that the story line will be similar to Allari Ramudu.

Second half starts on a promising note, where Balakrishna delivers some of the best mass dailogues. Sneha impresses and you would definitely love her in the role. Entrance Jayaprada and the movie again falls flat. When one is still confused if the movie has ended or not, 'subham card' is shown on the screen.
Artists and Technicians:
10 minutes to decide upon the story, 60 minutes to write the screenplay and shooting for 30 odd days is what it takes in making a movie like MAHARADHI. The only locations used in the movie are Jayaprda's and Naresh's college, Vizag beach and a Kalyanamandapam. The million dollar question here is how could the makers think that they would wrap up the movie oblivious to the star image of Balakrishna.
Guru Kiran is one more person here to be blamed. I still wonder why was he taken for Music Direction in the first place. If variety is one reason, yes he has done it. His variety in giving the background score really hits you on face. Most of the background score is lifted from old telugu songs. First half first song and second half first song are the only songs worth mentioning.
Bala Krishna is to be commended for he did complete justice to all the 3 characters. He has given his 200 % effort for the movie. He has to be appreciated for his commitment and for putting aside his ego and acting in a half naked scene with just the underwear. The worst part here is the whole episode is so pathetic that you would feel sorry for Bala Krishna. Sneha did a pretty decent job and one would just love her in those sarees. Meera Jasmine is ok. Navneeth is wasted.
Box Office Prediction:
Story is mass-oriented but the taking is class-oriented.
Director might have thought to make it a hit both in masses
and also in class audience. But he couldnt predict that the
whole fare would go haywire. This movie is no great when
compared to other flop movies of Balakrishna, its just about
the same thing again. The movie has nothing in it for it to be
atleast an average.
Verdict as a reviewer:
Sky is the limit to the expectations on Balakrishna's movie. So the story selection should be made keeping that in mind. The freedom given by Balakrishna to the producer and director is put to no use.
Punchline: MAHARADHI - TAPPEVARIDI (Who's mistake is this????)
