Verdict: UTTER FLOP (1.75/5.00)


My expectations:

Siva Nageshwar Rao lost his comic touch long time back. But his luck doest seem to leave him. He’s finding producers even after string of un-successful films. I wouldn’t have shown interest if it was some other movie. I hoped this will be a good movie as the story revolves around the real estate boom of Hyderabad suburbs tellapur and kokapet.

My view:

Before I start telling the story I request the readers that “KOTLU” means not the one we wear, but the real “kotlu” crores.

Kailas(Venu Madhav) becomes lucky overnight by selling his farm land of 2 acres for 50 crores each. He doesn’t know what to do with that kind of money and starts spending money freely, like buying khairatabad vinyak idol laddu for 2 crores, buying a sick news paper unit for 20 crores., producing a movie as hero himself with 10 crors and finally giving 30 crores to vilan in hope of becoming chief minister. Finally he spends every penny and life comes back to where he started. Movie ends with a moral that its safe to trust land rather than money.

Hero character is portrayed in disgust manner, movie goers start hating for his crazy portryal. If the same theme with caliber of Venu madhav has been narrated in a proper way, movie would have been a minimum guarantee hit. Disgusting cheap comedy and vulgarity killed the movie.

Artists and Technicians:

There is no difference in venu madhav’s acting, he did the same old mimicry which he did umpteen number of times in several movie.. Suhasini is Just Ok, if she selects the right characters she would be remembered as one more native telugu heroine. Gowri munjal is permitted to one song.

Finally we have to talk about the producer. He was doing real estate business some where in anantapur, but glamour & money pulled him towards industry. He expected the same money as this movie caption (ekaram 50 kotlu). He should be happy with the money he’ll get with the openings. He spent lavishly on the movie. He didn’t compromise any where. Probably he didn’t know the economics of the movie field. He’ll realize this by 2nd movie, if at all he makes one.

Bapu himself praised the comic sense of Siva Nageshwar Rao. There wasn’t any vulgarity in his earlier movies. But in this movie from the start to end its filled with vulgar and double meaning dialogues. I wonder how censor passed some of the scenes.

Its better to not talk about music director Rohit Raj, Grand son of Saluru Rajeshwar Rao. Keeravani is passé.

Box Office Prediction:

Venu Madhav drew the crowds to theater but cudnt make them stick to their chairs till the end. Since it’s a summer and there are no good movies in the market, cine goers came to this movie with high expectation because of its title and tag line. It doesn’t take 2 hrs to know that movie didn’t reach expectations. With out any exception this movie will be utter flop in A,B,C centers

Verdict as a reviewer:

I see the producer as hero for this movie. It seemed People around the producer played with his money. He dint seem to compromise anywhere be it the costly settings, songs in foreign locales or shooting in five start hotel.

I failed to understand about the film makers idea of comedy. It had been ages since the people came out of those vulgar n cheap comedy but the makers of this film dint seem to leave the idea. Its better for the filmmakers to leave this idea of vulgar comedy. Comedy heros like Ali, Venu Madhav should think twice and take careful consideration of the story before signing up as a hero. This will help their career in long run
