Verdict: BELOW AVERAGE (2.25/5.00)

My expectations:

I was at first surprised to see Venkatesh and Sri Raghava working together for a movie. Sri Raghava a creative director working with Venkatesh who has been riding the routine senti flicks tide with lots of tears and yet being successful at the box office, made me feel that ok lets see what they have in store for us. The project took ages to hit the marquee and with the music being a let down when compared to their earlier films,I was not surprised to see Sri Raghava's mark missing in the trailers of this movie. Lack of good openings is what is expected but it is undoubtedly the worst among Venky's films in recent years.

My view:

While watching this movie all I could think of are the dialogues from Venky's previous films. There is one such dialogue from the movie Malliswari which would ably put forth the whole story of the movie.

Venki: "Aiswarya ni, Kareena Kapoor ni araganta mixie lo vesi teesthe ela untundo ala untundi"

to which chithram seenu says "maree antha mixture ante manalni chesukuntunda"

In the same way I would say "Premante Idera ni, Kalisundam raa ni, Nuvvu Naku Nachav ni 2 1/2 hrs mixie lo vesi choopisthe ela untundo ee cinema ala untundi" (This movie is no different from Premante Idera, Kalisundam Raa or NNN)

to which you would say, I presume, " maree anthe mixture aithe janalu choostharantava???".

Jokes apart, this story is no different from 41,693 films released so far with the same or similar storyline and some 7 odd movies done by Venky himself.

• Venki loves a girl
• Even the girl falls in love with him
• But the engagement of the girl is over and she is helpless now
• Venki goes to their house, charms every one with his too-good-to-believe persona.
• Towards climax when everyone is busy with the marriage, Venki packs up his bag ready to leave the place, on his way, he is confronted by villians and is beaten black and blue. Eventually he wins and goes to railway station
• The girl then comes to railway station and hugs him. And they happily live everafter.
The only twist in the above tale is that the climax is not at a railway station but at a hospital.

You would really wonder how could Raghava who eariler gave some fantastic flicks like Thulluvadho Illamai, Kadhal Kondein, 7/G Brindavan colony, has comeup with some run-of-the-mill film like this one. Even Jayanth C Paranje could have done equally good job with such a story. I see no reason whatsoever for the producer to pay so many crores to Raghava for this average show. May be the director was forced to do so and compromise on this keeping in view the image of Venkatesh , this is usually the case these days with all big heroes.

Ganesh(Venky) is a software engineer who falls in love with his colleague Keerthi(Trisha). But she is already engaged to a friend of Ganesh's. So Ganesh goes to this village and impresses everyone with his charm and how towards the end wins his love forms the rest of the story.

In short this is the story and even if you ask me to elaborate, I have nothing more to say.

Artists and Technicians:

Two artists who need a special mention are Venkatesh and Kota Sreenivas Rao. For Venkatesh the role offers no challenge and is a cake walk for him. After many a years, Kota has been cast in a very good role and he as usual lives up to the expectations. In fact you would miss him in the second half.

Trisha is ok and at the same time nothing to rave about. Vishwanath, Suneel and Sriram performances are good.

Expect a couple of scenes and interval episode, no where is the mark of Raghava seen in the movie. He could have done wonders with Venkatesh had he taken enough care and by including 4 - 5 really heart touching scenes ala interval episode.

Yuvan Shankar Raja and Raghava share a special rapport. Their combination has always done wonders. The background score has been great in their films. But in this movie, the background score is a big letdown. Even the songs are not good, some are even worse to hear. The songs full of tamil-nativity-odour would not appeal to normal telugu audience. The climax song with ample beats and full of orchestrization is definitely alien to telugu audience and you would feel like screaming in the theatre. I really wondered if it was Yuvan who did the BGM for this movie.

Box Office Prediction:

Keeping aside the hit-or-flop question, Venky has done many a films similar to this one and is definitely one of its kind movie from Raghava. I really hope he never repeats it again. Audience from B and C centers would not even dare to see this flick. It is still to be seen, if Venky as he did for his previous films, do wonders at box office with below average movies. His stronghold being ladies and family audience. Well if Andhra audience is not vexed up with engagement-love-marriage kind of flicks, then anything can happen.

Verdict as a reviewer:

There's a dialogue in Kshana Kshanam, when Venki tells a cinema story, Sridevi says, "meeru chepthavunte naku automatic ga telsi potha undi andi". Same is the situation with the audience watching second half. The second half is very predictive saving some really entertaining scenes here and there. The plot goes haywire towards end and quite confusing.

There are two scenes that have really impressed me. *** SPOILERS AHEAD*** (if u really care!!)

The 30 min interval episode of Kota's death. I have seen many a people shedding tears for this single scene. Venki's performance has really elevated it and it is the only scene with Raghava's mark of execution.

The scene where Venki saves the grandma of the heroine. These two scenes stand out. I would only recommend you to watch if you have enough time to spare for a movie with entertainment in bits and pieces, not for it is a Venki's movie or for that matter Raghava's movie.

Tailpiece: If you happen to know why the film is named so, do take the pain to mail me. Please
