Akkad ambiguity ledu kada. After counting windows still there was dilemma coz two sets are probables. The moment a oldest is figured 6 6 1 got ruled out. Final is 9,2,2

Gandhiguevara:

The king then said: "My oldest son has red hair."

This should have been "older" to avoid ambiguity :-) Oldest is applicable to all combinations including three different ages like 2,3,6:-)

there is one blind mathematicican who lost sight at the age of one

Nicholas Saunderson (1682 – 19 April 1739) was an English scientist and mathematician. According to one leading historian of statistics, he may have been the earliest discoverer of Bayes theorem.[1]

Saunderson was born at Thurlstone, Yorkshire, in January 1682. When about a year old he lost his sight through smallpox; but this did not prevent him from acquiring a knowledge of Latin and Greek, and studying mathematics. As a child, he is also thought to have learnt to read by tracing the engravings on tombstones around St John the Baptist Church in Penistone with his fingers. His early education was at Penistone Grammar School.

In 1707, he arrived in Cambridge, staying with his friend Joshua Dunn, a fellow-commoner at Christ's College. During this time, he resided in Christ's but was not admitted to the University.[2] With the permission of the Lucasian professor, William Whiston, Saunderson was allowed to teach, lecturing on mathematics, astronomy and optics. Whiston was expelled from his chair on 30 October 1710; at the appeal of the heads of colleges, Queen Anne awarded Saunderson a Master of Arts degree on 19 November 1711 so that he would be eligible to succeed Whiston as Lucasian professor, and he was chosen as the fourth Lucasian professor the next day. On 6 November 1718 he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society. He was resident at Christ's until 1723 when he married and took a house in Cambridge. He was created doctor of laws in 1728 by command of George II. He died of scurvy, on 19 April 1739 and was buried in the chancel of the parish church at Boxworth near Cambridge.

Saunderson possessed the friendship of many of the eminent mathematicians of the time, such as Sir Isaac Newton, Edmund Halley, Abraham De Moivre and Roger Cotes. His senses of hearing and touch were extraordinarily acute, and he could carry on mentally long and intricate mathematical calculations. He devised a calculating machine or abacus, by which he could perform arithmetical and algebraic operations by the sense of touch; this method is sometimes termed his palpable arithmetic, an account of which is given in his elaborate Elements of Algebra.

Of his other writings, prepared for the use of his pupils, the only one which has been published is The Method of Fluxions. At the end of this treatise there is given, in Latin, an explanation of the principal propositions of Sir Isaac Newton’s philosophy.

naaku ee part artham kaale bro - number of windows = sum of ages ayithe why only 9 2 2 = 6 6 1 okkate possibility enduku? nenu maths la saana eek

idigo gagu thammudu..thondarga answer vettu intiki povaale.

migatha anni sets add chesthe, you get a different value, but for these two sets you get the same value, and since they have the same value, the guy who was not blind could not make out the answer from the clue.

(9,2,2) = 13
(12,3,1) = 16
(6,6,1) = 13
(9,4,1) = 14
(6,2,3) = 11
(4,3,3) = 10
(18,2,1) = 21
(36,1,1) = 38

so king ichina second clue tho, answer endhuku seppaledhu ante, there was still ambiguity, and that ambiguity was the sum of two of the sets is same as the number of windows, so aa renditlo edho decide cheyaleka poyaar anukuntunna..

Der bro,

Inthaku mundhu kooda eastern school of philosophies, and the way they differ from western school of thought gurinchi discussion jariginappudu, i was of the same opinion. I do not have a stand leaning towards a particular school of thought(which makes me feel I am too scared to accept anything, sometimes), I feel there is a good deal of validity in the argument you have given.

Even I believe that today's materialistic/existential view formulated based on dialogs and stories of aristotle/socrates, though humble in thier initial approach towards understanding nature, have taken a stringent lean towards the non-existence of spiritual component in nature.

Hmm.....born...blind is a tough question......certain it effects one part of cognition and IF (A BIGGGGGGGGGGGGGG IF) the human brain has a left and right to it....might effect spatial causation that originates from sight.....certainly.as an instance..inertia seen is a much concrete an insight than that inspired by feeling...

I believe that physical reality or access to one is not a necessary condition to do mathematics at least

ASIDE: (detour)

But that said, is reality only bound to the senses.....not necessarily true...a very iffy statement that....atleast that is the argument that most of so called rational atheists tend to put forth as a reason for existentialism and materialism(together clubbed together as occindentalism) to reign supreme in the western thought........

oriental rejection of such occidentalism emanates from strong religious beliefs in karmic principles (as reflected predominantly in hinduism and taoism)..A lot of meta physics is ascribed to feelings in western societies and is relegated to that which can wait to be reasoned...but in eastern philosophies everything emanates from innate souls consonance to its calling as has been destined and is therefore evident that physical reality is not the only gateway to truth...

Today's explosion of materialism and post modern relativism as expressed by most of uninformed liberals both here and elsewhere is an offshoot of the vexation caused by lack of reason and hence is ascribed to free will which is metaphysics proper...

Any person who calls himself a rationalist can not in theory be subscribing to free will....with out accepting the idea of God and if he accepts God can't run roughshod over notions of adherence to a code...its a battle that is pretty new to man kind.....reason awaits to be ushered in...

hmm 1 1 36 kaadhu emo annai,

the possible solution sets are

(9,2,2) (12,3,1) (6,6,1) (9,4,1) (6,2,3) (4,3,3) (18,2,1) (36,1,1)

first clue tho ivi easy ga vachi untaayi idhariki..

second clue ki answer cheppaledhu anta, it should still be ambiguous

number of windows = sum of ages annaru kadha

only two migulthaayi

9 4 4 = 6 6 1

last clue meant only one elder son

so 9 4 4

Blind people ki kuda scripting undhi kada... there is always a way...

another way of thinking would be i guess ... we set some limits based on wat we have seen/experience... may the blind dont and can go beyond

Once upon a time a king wanted to hire the best Mathematician in his kingdom to work in his palace. His servants brought to him the best two mathematicians, one of them was blind. The king told both mathematicians that he can't hire both so he will ask a question and whoever answers gets the job.

The king said: "I have three sons, whoever guesses their ages will be hired." The king told them that if they multiply the ages of his sons the result will be 36. Both mathematicians told the king that this information is not enough. The king then said: "The number of windows in the building across the street is equal to the sum of the ages of my sons." The first mathematician (who can see) counted the windows, and told the king that he still could not figure it out. The Blind mathematician (who could not count the windows) told the king that he does not have an answer. The king then said: "My oldest son has red hair." Right away the blind mathematician gave the correct answer and got hired.

The question is: How did the Blind guy know the answer and what is the answer?
