fed would have beaten both these guys today in less than or = 4sets today. soderling was majorly aided by the wet conditions 3days back. that said, soda or bird's game matches better against nadal than federer's. unfortunately, this marathon 5setter is not at all a good way to prepare for a RG final with nadal. but, if these guys want the RG crown, they have to do it the hard way. i am happy berdych is putting up a good fight. he has underachieved all these years, since he burst onto the scene when he beat roger at the athens olympics in 2004. and in 2006, he really had the wood on nadal, beating him thrice during the fall season. in 2009 ao 4th round he was 2 sets to love ahead of roger and choked and lost. he definitely has more natural talent than soderling, but soderling is more mentally tough. i still think soda pulls this 5th set out, but both have played wonderfully well. they have beaten everything that is holy out of those poor tennis balls. for a change the weather is sunny and that has led to a drop in the level of offense on display from both, but there is no denying that these guys are playing new-age clay tennis. there is no respect for spinning the ball that has been the primary mode of playing tennis on clay. just pure unadulterated, undiluted, uncomplicated, decisive and clean power-game. i am a fan of this style. bring it on guys! tennis coverage in US sucks! i hate encouraging illegal broadcasts like sopcast and justin tv, but US tennis coverage left me no choices. this is a yearly nonsense NBC does with FO and wimbledon. they have the rights to semis and finals while espn does the rest. but NBC broadcast is so effed up, they will give the coverage delayed live. in this era, with the www as super as it is, that is a crime. espn and tennis channel cant telecast, because they are blacked out by NBC's stupid television rights! If memory serves me right, FO lo espn can show one semi. so i am guessing they will show rafa's match live. wimbedon ayithe nbc has both semis rights, i think, they end up showing none of those 2 live. the major charm of sport is to watch it live as it happens. and nbc kills that charm with absolutely no regard to the spirit of sport! and major reason is tennis is not in top 10 sports in US, maybe even top 15, i am not sure. sports like drag-racing and curling have better trp ratings that tennis, if i am not mistaken..... so that is a major reason, tennis gets a raw deal. it is the 2nd most global sport after soccer, but you wouldn't know that if you follow tennis on US television. end of rant! sorry, had to get this in.
