Friday VA show was fantastic too. I did not have tickets for the show. And I also did not know that the show was advertised with Tamil, Kannada, and Malayaalam associations also. I was thinking it was a telugu association event to raise money for a temple construction here. We decided to go in the last minute and went there. Just by looking at the parking lot I knew the venue would be jam packed. We went to the doors in the hopes we would find tickets. There was no one with ticket counters and a guy was holding two tickets at the door and standing there. Thinking he was a volunteer, I asked him if tickets were still available. The guy looked at me and said "tickets unna maake seats levu, ippudu tickets kaavala?". I could sense the sarcasm in his tone. I wouldn't blame him for that. We were getting ready to leave. A volunteer walked to us and asked if we were waiting for seats. We told him we do not have tickets. He said, "no problem, please come" and took us inside and showed us empty seats scattered here and there. I wish I could meet him to thank him for that. What a great evening it turned out to be. And icing on the cake was, they were collection donations for the temple during the entire show. i just donated all I had in my wallet. That was the least I could give for that great evening. | ||

little lengthy in writing so please bear. in the lines of Master card advt Tickets to the concert $300 Food and other expenses $125 Time spent in the concert - priceless ************************************************************ ***************** SPB's NJ Live-in-Concert was organized by AAINA on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 from 7.30 PM to 10.30 PM at Union county Performing Arts Center, 1601 Irving St, Rahway, NJ 07065. Singers: SP Balu, SP Sailaja, Sri Krishna and Kalpana Raghavendra Note: Some of the lines were taken from Sri Srinivasa Raoâs report of SPBâs concert in CA especially the names of Orchestra and few other praising. Thanks to sri Chimata Srinivasa Rao garu. Orchestra: Chinna & Praveen (Keyboards) Srinivasachari (Lead Guitar), Caleb Alexander (Bass Guitar) Ravi Sankar (Flute) Swamy (Pads), Krishnamurthy (Pads/Dafli) Phani (Congos & the Orchestra manager) Paul Raj (Tabla/Dholak), and Venugopala Raju (Tabla). Sri SPB was introduced by the organizers who were waiting since an hour and half. When Sri SPB arrived on the stage the 1500+ audiences greeted Sir Balu with a standing ovation. SPB thanked the audience for a full Telugu concert unlike many other places, where his shows would include songs from other languages such as Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi). Before the concert in a sad tone he announced that just few hours back legendary poet Sri Veturi gaaru passed away and it was like a shock to many in the auditorium and personally I could not control my tears. It was very sad moment indeed and Sri SPB told with trembling voice and asked the audience to observe a minute of silence for the soul of Sri Veturi. Since this program was organized long ago he said it will be done in the joyous mood but might take few moments for everyone to settle down. Sri Balu was very emotional when he said he could have NOT done this show but he doesnât want to disappoint the audience or organizers and hence he will do the show. Smt Sailaja garu was continuously weeping and was shaken by the news. Later the event was kind of dedicated to Sri Veturi as most of the songs sung by all comprised the lyrics of Sri Veturi. Sri SPB quoted the lines from Sri Veturiâs song âjayanti tE suKrutinO rasasiddhaa kaveeSwaraa, naasti yEshaam yaSah kaayE naasti jaraa maraNajam bhayamâ meaning that there is no death for artists. This is true especially to poets and more importantly for a special poet, lyricist like Sri Veturi gaaru. He introduced all the co-singers (SP Sailaja, Sri Krishna and Kalapana) one after another. Balu introduced Sri Krishna saying that he was a gem found in his own pADAlanundi TV program a few years ago in telugu and kannada, and blessed him that Sri Krishna would have a very bright future in his singing career. Balu passed a compliment on Kalpana that she was a multi-faceted talented girl. Balu started the program with vEdam aNuvaNuvuna naadam from saagara sangamam wth a chorus from the rest of the three singers. SPB praised how Veturi excelled in all types of songs and the second song was O paapaa laali from geetanjali movie. Balu told the audiences that there were two talented technicians who brought the popularity to the Dappu instrument in the movies and they were "Amruthayya" and his disciple, "Daasu". Balu wonderfully sang the song rA digirA.. divi nunchi bhuvi digirA from the movie sirisiri muvva, without missing any emotions from the original song. Balu added that few acting talents like Kamal, NTR, ANR, Chandramohan bring life to certain songs by their wonderful acting. He commented who else could write such a song expect Veturi and he particularly went over the last line - SilavE ayitE pagilipO.. SivuDE ayitE ragilipO. Balu asked to give a big applause to these two artists who excelled and explained how much pains they took while recoding that song. Sri Krishna greeted the audiences and emotionally shared with the audiences that his dream of becoming a singer got materialized with Balu's "pADAlani undi" TV program. He affectionately recalled how his dream to come to the USA as a performer and it turned to a reality with Balu's blessings in his 2008 US tour. He also modestly acknowledged his gratitude to his mentor/music director, Koti and to the music director, Kalyani Malik for giving him the ashTAchEmmA title song. He sang the the ashTAchemmA title song (that got him instant popularity) and received a lot of cheers. Balu and Kalpana sung, veeNa vENuvaina from the movie, inTinTi rAmAyaNam. Balu went on adding the beauty of lyrics where Sri Veturi inserted navata and kavita (the makers of the film and their banner) into the song. Also Balu told the audience how they manipulate on the breathless stuff and sang the maaTe raani chinnadani effortlessly. Balu encouraged both Sri Krishna and Kalpana to come up with a teasing mass song. Both young singers enthusiastically sang the song, gOngUra tOTA kADa kApu kASA from the movie, Venky. Kalpana cheered up the audiences with her effortless rhythmic steps and encouraged the audiences to give the rhythm with their claps and the whole auditorium reverberated with the rhythmic claps for the last piece of the song. Everyone was very appreciative about the energy possessed by Kalpana on stage. Balu put the audiences in a trance with a romantic song, mallelu pUse from the movie, inTinTi rAmAyaNam. Balu and Kalapana sang another classic romantic duet, yamahO nee yama yama andam with a cheerful response from the audiences.Sri Krishna and Sailaja sang a soft romantic song, rAsaleela vELa from the movie, Adithya369. While singing the song prati raatri vasanta raatri Balu said it was a gift for him to stand next to Sri Ghantasala gaaru and sing a song. While singing it on stage he said he is still the same Balu and after the song Sri Krishna thanked Balu to give him an opportunity to sing standing next to him and affectionately reiterated that even 100 people cannot match the singing power of Sri Balu. Sailaja sang jallanta kavvinta kAvAlilE from the movie geetAnjali to the delight. Balu and Kalpana sang the song, O priyA priyA from the same movie, geetAnjali. Next one was one of the most popular mass songs from the 90's and it was muThAmEstri title song. When Sri Krishna started off the beginning part (OyirabbA.. OyirabbA) and Balu sang the song with his thundering voice and the auditorium reverberated with whistles and cheerful claps one more time. In the end of the song, Kalpana teasingly said that it is Sri "SP Balasubrahmanyam" is their mEstri to which Balu said OK I will". Then Sri Krishna and Kalpana came up with one of the recent songs from the movie, pOkiri and the song was chUDoddanTunnA.. chUstUnE unTA receiving the cheers from the younger audiences. SP Charan who was in Newyork and came to the concert was introduced by SPB. SP charan with his aunt Sailaja sang the beautiful song priyatamaa from JVAS. SPB affectionately wished that Charan be more into music rather than other aspects of film like production and etc as gift of music cannot showered on everyone. He also mentioned that for varasulu of Celebrities it is tough to sustain the glory as people expect them to start with the glory of 30/40 yrs from the beginning itself. Balu and Sailaja sung a soft melody jAmurAtiri jAbilammA from the movie, kshNakshNam to the delight of audience. Balu thanked the organizer Sunil Nethi and all others. Mr. Sunil spoke few words and asked Balu to sing idi toil paaTa and aresukoboyi for audience. Balu sang a medley of some pallavis and charaNams of songs such as Adibhikshuvu (siri vennela), ArEsukObOyi (aDAvi rAmuDu), tere mere beech mein (Ek dooje kEliyE) etc. After done with the medley mix, Balu thanked the audiences one more time for giving him chance to entertain the audience since long. The concert came to end with famous annamayya song âadivo alladivOâ with SPB singing and others giving chorus. Finally Balu thanked all the organizers, sound system people and advised the audience to drive safe to back home and wished that he sees the wonderful audience again. Despite with heavy emotions Sri SPB after the program came to Dias for those who are waiting to have a glimpse of him and gave few autographs and once again thanked all. Overall, it was once again a life-time memorable concert from the SP Balu's team.
