Btw .. I am into the 4th video in the series and I did not "hear" what was Dr. Manmohan Singh's response on the Medical Council of India chairman taking bribe. Though, to my good fortune, I had a good opportunity to hear about the very good qualities of MMS ! Please do post what was his response and if it was not in affirmative, as said by JP earlier, JP has no business in the whatever govt committee. Do let me know ! Bharat Mata ki Jai |

Please do not take my words otherwise, but I truly respect JP, though I certainly do not subscribe to his idea of "political Gandhism". None the less, as a man working for the development of India and its people, I do have respect for him as I have for anybody else. If I make fun of him sometimes, it is only because I feel he is very impractical in his approach and frankly, faith is what makes India what it is, is our idea ! I am hopeful and working for it, but interactions with people from Congress do not give a good picture ! Lets see, Dilli bahut door hai .. Bharat Mata ki Jai |

Modi favours strong action against Naxals
quote:Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the tendency to destroy the society with arms cannot be accepted and that the government should take strong action against Naxals, hours after he appeared to have favoured talks with them. "I want to say that government should take strong action against Naxals and killing of innocent people cannot be allowed," he told reporters in New Delhi after meeting Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia. "Any tendency to destroy the society with arms cannot be accepted. Whether it is the Centre or the states, such things should be eliminated completely," he said. His comments came just hours after he said at an interaction with students at Mangalayatan University in Aligarh that Naxalite youths "are our own" and that "we have to make them understand that talks are the only way and killing people is not going to solve any problem." Clarifying the remarks made in Aligarh, Modi said, "The question asked to me was in the context of those youth (who have taken to arms) and this was my advise to the youth. "I was neither asked what the government should do nor did I reply on the issue," the Gujarat Chief Minister said. Modi said he was asked what was his message to the youth who had taken to the path of violence. "My answer was that I will request the youth that violence will never change the situation. They should leave arms and within the constitutional framework, they should raise their voice in the right forums to solve their problems," he said. Modi had said, "These youths are our own. We should make them understand that violence is not a solution to any problem." The remarks made in Aligarh came as a surprise to many as BJP has been advocating strong action against the Naxals. After the Naxals blew up a passenger bus in Dantewada last week, the BJP made a strong pitch for firm action against them. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley had said a "half battle against Maoists can never succeed" and rubbished arguments that lack of development was the prime cause of Naxalism.

* The ministers will meet next month to share notes on good governance, said former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who heads the party's so-called good governance cell.
quote:New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is calling a meeting of chief ministers and senior ministers from states controlled by it, seeking to improve their functioning and refurbish the party's image. The ministers will meet next month to share notes on good governance, said former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who heads the party’s so-called good governance cell. The BJP is the country's second largest political party and heads the National Democratic Alliance of parties opposed to the United Progressive Alliance, led by the Congress, which runs the Union government. The good governance cell was recently revived as part of a range of reforms the BJP has been ushering in since losing last year's general election—its second consecutive defeat in the five-yearly polls. The BJP rules Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka on its own. It is part of the ruling alliance in Bihar, Punjab and Jharkhand. The cell used to be headed by Vijay Kapoor, a former lieutenant governor of Delhi, but became dormant after his spat with then Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti. Parrikar said its revival will help BJP state governments learn from each other. "It is certainly not a move to deliberate on Centre-state relations but all things that influence good governance would be discussed, which also includes better conduct." BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said the June meeting will also help BJP state governments take a coordinated stand on issues to be raised with the Centre. "On issues like GST (goods and services tax) and others, there is a need to fine-tune our stand so that none of our states are singled out." GST may take effect from 1 April 2011 across India. Jyotirmaya Sharma, professor of political science at Hyderabad University, said the BJP, which has been racked by internal squabbles, needs to improve intra-party governance before expecting its state governments to perform better. "The idea of good governance could turn out to be an oxymoron if you try and inculcate good conduct in government without having a proper and strong centre for the organization," he said.
