In my view, the movie had got he characterizations(atleast in the leading roles) pretty good.

Seetharamayya was a typical zamidar, he is proud, immensely egoistic, and tries to portray himself as a person with strong character, and his preference to name/fame/word over the lives of the rest. It is not a weird trait, especially for people of perceived power of previous generations. This to me is a very real character, his choice of fame, or his word over his son did not surprise me.
can OA be sometimes the character itself, I have not watched the movie in the last 10 years so i cannot recollect the movie to the levels I would like to, but ANR was pretty good.

Raja - I dont remember the character name, a person leaving his father and not contacting his parents, over such long times, at first I thought it was weird, but later It struck to me that Raja's character was of a typical "run away from trouble" character. It seemed pretty possible for such a character to not put up a fight and try for getting back to his loved one's. such souls typically wait for a signal from the other side than tries from the other side.
He could not face his father, about his love, a typical trait of people grown under strong, and commanding personalities. So he marries the lady he loves without the consent of his parents, which pretty much sums up his character. he is not someone who would go through the trouble of putting up a fight, he would rather chose to get things done secretly or without confrontation, and deal with the consequences.

a wife who does not speak against her husband, if it means curbing her feelings, even the love for her child. a wife who needs to give her preference to her husbands will, rather than her own aspirations.
there was a strange aspect of wives in the movie -
wife of tanikella, accepting his adulterous behavior
wife of kota, accepting his husbands word, and not attempting to speak against him, even of his ill treatments.
wife of seetharamayya - also goes by the same pattern.
It seemed to me, that these characters had an inherent similarity.

seeta's character, it could have been any character, but i think what would work most with the other characters, who appears childish, so they find her instantly cute, and who can show flashes of maturity where needed so they can see that she is much more than a kid. she needs to be a person who can mingle with others easily.
I do not remember the individual performances. Almost all the characters had negatives, but they were not shown as strong traits, possibly to keep the plot of the movie simple. movie was pretty sad for me, each character was in pain, albeit their grand demeanor and depicted ease with which way overcome their sadness.

Over emotions.. etc..etc. It is not just about ANR.. it is about any actor in any movie released during that period.ANR ayithe.. notlo kuda edo erupu rangu vesukunevadu anukunta.. yucky. Appudappude vachchina color movies lo mouth kuda red gaa choopinchadaniki kabolu. We should blame it on ANR also for acting in such movies.. You can see a gentle man ANR in all the movies during 60s. |

correst...most indian actors have this problem of transition from one generation to another...and also the acting in 1950s or 60s also seems odd because most actors were from stage background and their acting was in sync with those times or simply put we just can't understand those times |
