I have a friend who wants to hire developers: Below is the description that he sent me. Interested people who absolutely match the below reqs, send it to me and I will pass it on: "TWO SIGMA INVESTMENTS, LLC (http://www.twosigma.com) Two Sigma is an extremely technology-driven company, that happens to operate in the financial services space. Two Sigma is a D.E.Shaw spin-off, founded in 2001. At Two Sigma, most of the 'heavy lifting' in terms of development is done using core Java, but candidates with strong C and or C++ are totally suitable as well. Their belief is that a strong programmer is a strong programmer, regardless of the language(s) a person currently utilizes for development. They would rather identify great technologists managing smaller teams, than a 'good' technologist managing a larger team. What separates Two Sigma from other companies: They are building technology-based systems and solutions that other firms aren't tackling. The environment is both intellectually stimulating, and entrepreneurial. Two Sigma is looking for top technologists with a very strong academic pedigree, with an emphasis on folks with a Computer Science background. An advanced degree is great, but a BS degree from a top school is fine as well. Candidates from technology/product companies tend to fit best, but Two Sigma is open to candidates from other Hedge Funds or financial firms as well.......but for the developer roles, they want superstar technologists, not 'business' types. Schools that attract their attention are: Ivy League schools, Stanford, CMU, Berkeley, University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, Caltech, MIT....and certain select others. Outside of the US, noteworthy schools are Oxford, IIT, Beijing, USTC, Fudan...and certain select others. Candidates with EXTREMELY impressive project/research experience coming from other schools will also be considered. Very interested in International Math Olympiad winners & Putnam Competition winners for their Quant Research roles. After taking an initial, 2 hour 'code test', appropriate candidates will interview across a number of groups within Two Sigma, during an all day interview (Platform Services, Research Engineering, Data Engineering, Execution, Derivatives are their 5 primary groups ....are also forming an Infrastructure group soon) and then the determination will be made jointly as to which group/team would be the best fit for an individual to be part of. Compensation for their developer roles is open, with the potential for a significant base salary, bonus 'buyouts' (under certain circumstances) and 'minimum' guarantees. Some additional facts: -250 total employees, with about 100 SW Developers, and ~ 65% of the firm are in technology -Two Sigma has 3 offices in Soho (NYC), 1 in London, and 1 in Houston (Data Engineering). Bulk of the employees (about 210) are in NYC -Two Sigma hired 14 SW developers in 2007, and hired 19 SW developers in 2008. They haven't lost ONE Developer over this period of time -Overall corporate hires for Two Sigma: 50 people in 2007, and 65 people in '08 -Two Sigma was founded in 2001, by a couple of people from DE Shaw. Now north of 5 billion dollars under management, up from 4 billion in '07 -Over 97% of their trades on the 'decision' side are untouched by human hands, it's all algorithms/technology driven -Their business model as a Hedge Fund is more 'Quantitative' rather than the more traditional 'Research' approach - Two Sigma has 5 funds, they just launched 2 new funds in April of 2008 which have been very successful, no small feat in these economic times. All 5 funds were 'positive' in 2008. -Primary Business areas are: Equities, Currencies, Futures, Commodities......not much at all in the Fixed Income space" |
