Mikkymouse mama and other mamas Any one can go to the test drive, you no need to mention my name if you go in person. In the test drive they will just take your SALIVA with swab not blood. Then they will take all the test kits to lab. Once they test everything they will put the results in NMDP (National Marrow Donor Program) database. My doctor will check the data base every week to find a match for me. If they find a match they will call you directly if you are willing to donate the marrow. Donating marrow is very simple process mamalu, they will give you local anastisia to your pelvic bone and by using a needla they will take 5 to 10 ml of marrow just like how you give blood in the lab. Donor can walk to their home on the same day. Very simple process. But donor will not know who is the patient and patient will not know who is the donor, because of confidentiality, they will not reveal the info. If donor and patient agrees, doctors will share the info to us and we can talk each other after two years of the treatment. BMT (Bone Marrow Transplantation) will fix my problem forever. Tammudu, Just a suggestion, please try to contact local telugu associations in various cities and request them to conduct these drives. That is what we did few years ago to find a match for another local person here. That way, you get lot more people to get involved in the match finding process.
When you go to the test place, they take a small blood sample from you and you will be asked to fill out few papers to register with marrow bank. Once you are registered, you will be in their database for all future searches as well. If a match is found on you, the bank will contact you for the marrow donation. This is very similar to blood bank except you are asked to donate marrow only if you match on a person looking for donation. | ||
