Spelling bee lite, unless he shows interest in that program, I am not going to put him in that. Some how watching those competitions I feel like the kids are put under tremendous amounts of stress for no reason. I enroll him in what he shows interest. Let's see what he has in his future. | ||

I don't know how true this is, but I did play classical music (in the night when we went to bed) during our first child pregnancy. :-) He is sharp and musically inclined too. Don't know if that is really the reason. :-) | ||

I started reading to kids once they start showing interest in books, in the sense, once they started observing objects/things in the books. For babies, there are just picture books with no words. And you progress slowly from there. Browse through your local library once, you will get the idea. There are no hard and fast rules, take it easy and do these at your own pace. | ||

I didnt read any books, wife read that book, i went to all appointments and listened all crazy questions my wife asked i do it most of the times so i am not scared of wiping my kids ass i dont do most of the work, my wife doesnt trust me that i will get it done perfectly so i am lucky on that, i just play with my daughter i never had anxiety and i was very excited to see my daughter my parents came to help but if you are in US you need somebody's help if your wife goes thru c-section we need kakarla to certify lot of Mental Kandidates | ||

Stories maname sontamga raasi cheppaali anykunnavemo, just books sadivina saalu, vallu vintaaru. :-) Reading books to the kids is the best thing any parent can do to their kids. My dad used to read Ramayanam, Bharatam, etc to us every sunday and I still have those memories vividly in my mind. | ||

First thing.. its important for the to be mom to take care of her health.. eating all the right healthy foods.. getting enough mental and physical rest.. doing the right kind of exercises etc... We had 2 babies.. normal deliveries.. in the US.. no parents or in-laws during or after.. my wife even made nice dosas for some white guests during her 9th month.. since I was a good cook I used to cook as and when needed.. I was with my wife during the labour.. my presence was all that my wife needed for strength.. there are some nice videos available.. get them and watch to be prepared for this stage.. Our babies never made us lose even a single night sleep.. thank God.. thanks to my wife and babies.. everything went so well.. Kids are joy and fun.. but also a huge responsibility.. Finally we can only pray to God that everything goes well.. else there will be terrible tensions... | ||

I do even now, they need fresh food (by fresh i mean food cooked right before the meal), Initially i used to do everything from dishwashing(we live in 40 year old apartment, and they dont have dishwashing machines) to cooking and other day-day activities, but later when she felt OK (say after 5 months), I used to help her with cutting veggies/cooking rice etc, now back to my previous schedule of doing everything
I don't, I guess its because you may never know how you end up once you become old(not that i am counting on it and helping them now, but just a slight hope)

Not a father of new born, but went through the cycle twice, so I guess my experience counts. :-) 1) We both work, so we help each other at home with everything. I mean, everything, all chores. During pregnancies, I did most of the chores at home during last trimisters. 2) Ha Ha, nothing scary about it buddy. Don't worry. :-) You will get used to it pretty quickly. 3) Depends on what your spouse is expecting from you. If no expectations, then figure out what you want to help with at home. 4) I did not have any anxieties to conquer, I guess it varies from person to person. Know as much as you can about parenting, guess that could calm you down a little bit. At the same time know this, every child is unique. No one's experience is going to be same as yours. So, take one moment at a time and enjoy it. It is a wonderful journey. Having parents or in-laws will be a tremendous help. You are adjusting to a new phase of your life, it is good to have as much help as you can. At the same time, We have friends who had twins and had no body to help them here. They went through all the motions as everybody else without any problems. The trick is to understand that we, humans, are highly adaptable to circumstances. Congratulations, by the way!!! | ||

1) antenatal classes helped us hugely, they were offered free at the hospital 2) I had scary thoughts of diaper change, but it turned out that i have done the very first one. 3) responsibilties----mmm big question but im sure as part of gearing up, you will pretty much know what to expect.....so you make your plans or resolutions. 4) Paternal anxiety--- anxiety is common but once you watch the baby and spend more time with the baby, it eases out..... edho my contribution..... I have a 3 years old at home .. so i already gone thru most of this .. and though i am in india ... i did not bring my parents or inlaws for help ... in fact i managed myself even during the time when my wife was pregnant, with all house-hold stuff ... the only times we faced tough times were ... when both mom and kid fell ill and had to be admitted in hospital .... rest, it is life as usual, with bumy rides ... | ||

I know Most of the Desis Bring their Paretns or inlaws to Help them....But i was wondering abt the couples whose circumstaces dont permit for the same!! |
