rate at which time passes

boss...

can u define/explain this please?

may be.. this is how I understood.. correct me if im wrong..

suppose that I have a stop watch somewhere in this universe.
Im moving with the speed of light (approximately).
I started my journey from the Sun towards our earth.
the stop watch said that I took 8 minutes to reach earth.

if i do the same journey, with half the speed, the stop watch should say that i took 16 minutes.

all this is as per classical mechanics.

now.. what i understood is .. if i have a stopwatch along with me while im travelling, some changes may occur at the atomic level and my stop watch may mal-function and may show me some 3 seconds or some other small value like that..

In such a case, my measurement of the time happens to be wrong. coz I took exactly same time to complete the journey

:-(

Imagine yourself traveling at the speed of light then the whole world appears standstill, i.e., you feel as if nothing is happening around you.
/////////

:-(

When you drive on a highway at very high speed you won't notice the gaps on the white lines, for you it looks like a single line.

///////////

but....if i look at the farther mountains, they appear as if they are moving slowly..

im unable to get u :-(

Dts:

I think the following example make the concept understand better.

When you drive on a highway at very high speed you won't notice the gaps on the white lines, for you it looks like a single line. As you slow down you can see the dashes. In order for you to have feel for some object you need to slow down.

That example is only to explain the phenomenon. Now imagine yourself traveling at the speed of light.

i think it's more related to the inability of the eye..if what they say in relativity is true even a blind twin should age less because of time dilation...if nothing reaches him from behind atleast he should be able to see light that approaches him

Here they are talking about "rate at which time passes". It depends on velocity w.r.t. speed of light.

Can some one please explain this....

"In relativistic contexts, however, time cannot be separated from the three dimensions of space, because the rate at which time passes depends on an object's velocity relative to the speed of light and also on the strength of intense gravitational fields, which can slow the passage of time."
