Chidambaram About Chiranjeevi And Caste Politics Chidambaram talks about film industry? Whatâs this sudden development? Donât get bewildered. We are not talking about Home Minister Chidambaram. Itâs about Kallu Chidambaram, the Tollywood comedian. Kallu Chidamabaram is coming out these days into media. He is participating in discussions on Telangana issue and also openly speaking about film industry. In an I News interview he was asked about Chiranjeeviâs social service. He was asked to give his opinion on the service-motive of Chiranjeevi and also film celebrities in general. Then Chidambaram said, âIs there any rule that film industry people should do social service? If I ask this question there wouldnât be any instant answer. Why should people expect Chiranjeevi do social service? Film industry is a commercial place. Itâs a business. Service motive is individual. One may do it silently for self satisfaction and few others may do it with publicity to motivate others. Public service is purely personal and we should not talk much about thatâ.. In fact, he sounds practical. Even doctors, lawyers and many other businessmen are also earning from public. But service motive is purely personal. And then he was asked about âkula-pichchiâ and caste politics in Tollywood. Kallu Chidambaram said, âIt has been discussed that a community ruled film industry in the beginning and then another community took the mantle and ruling even now. The caste politics in film industry are based on money returns. When a hero is projected on caste lines, the fan following may go strong from same group people. When another hero is projected with another caste, his caste people may stand behind himâ¦just like in politics. When such competition or opposition is established there will be more scope for business and publicity hype. This caste equation may work with producers and heroes but not with comedians, side artistes, padding artists and others. Caste politics may give food for big heroes and producers but if it is carried by others, it will take away food from themâ. Indeed, Kallu Chidambaram seems to be very sane than expected. He is very practical and open. |
