Fact Sheet: It was all Narasimhan show It was not the Rosaiah government which successfully foiled the attempts of the students of Osmania University Joint Action Committee to lay siege to the assembly on Saturday. The credit should go to Governor E S L Narasimhan, according to analysts. The Governor is learnt to have given the blue print for the Hyderabad police to thwart the attempts of the students to come anywhere near the assembly. For the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh history, the police blocked the entry points into the city and put up barricades in every lane and by-lane. At every barricade, a heavy contingent of police was posted. So, it was virtually impossible for any single individual, leave alone a group of students, to cross the barricade. Though it caused a lot of inconvenience to the people for a few hours, the government could see to it that the students rally did not take place. The students gave such a âChalo Assemblyâ call on December 10, too, but the police did not take any such security measures. The Centre, then, was apprehensive of violence and made a positive statement on Telangana on December 9 night itself. Those days, Narasimhan was not the Governor. It is only because Narasimhan is there now, the police could take such a measure. |
