i think the way forward is that the govt should just recognize that there are caste-wise inequities among muslims/christians too and allocate reservations among the usual OBC/BC quota.. The easiest way for RSS to protest this religion-based reservation is to conduct mass conversion of everyone to muslims, inviting the media.. The usual assumption is that once a lower caste person is financially well equipped, he doesn't need any more help. This is true for big jobs/influential positions obtained by students in well-reputed institutes. However, for an average guy, it may not mean much if he doesn't have the necessary connections.. all success in getting a job/setting up a business/upward mobility depends as much on the connections you make as on your school grades. And these connections are usually considerably weak/non existent for lower castes compared to the upper castes. I have 'reservations' with the'reservations' system,especially on benefits going to second generation and after .unless this benefit is extended to the under-priviliged class of muslims, it will seem like India gives reservation to only the under-priviliged Hindu minorities. This is discriminatory. It is true that the status quo acts as a detterent for the lower Hindu castes from converting to other religions. "why not ONLY the ones who are economically backward? " Reservations are for Social Upliftment and Integration, it is less about helping the poor. A Poor Brahmin is not like a Poor Dalit. | ||
