Aswathama thought he killed the pandavas on the night.(upa pandavulu ni champuthadu) but when he saw the pandavas alive he gets into raze and charges the brahmastra. Arjuna counters it by his 'Pasupatha astram' and when both are required to withdraw the weapon, arjuna could do but aswathama could not withdrew. hence krishna changed its direction . rest is u know | ||

well that is debatable, or mostly based on the source. he does cuts the heads of upa pandavas.
I am not sure about it. If krishna wanted to stop brahmastra he could have stopped even before it hit any target. but it does hit uthara's womb, and parikshit had to be retrieved from a stillborn fetus(as it was not entirely nine months when this has happend). i guess it depends on the source of the story. there is a story that says Krishna places his foot on the stillborn baby. there is one more story, which says that Krishna asks anyone who has been a nitya brahmachari all their lives, when touched the still born baby, he would come alive. no one comes forward, and he declares that he who has been accused of having 16000 concubines, will try. and his touch brings the still born baby to life. the world of appearances may or may not be real, or both may and may not be real - or may be indescribable; or may be real and indescribable, or unreal and indescribable; or in the end may be read and unreal and indescribable - its all Syadvada | ||

I think it was the last day of the war(I am not exactly sure), Aswathama, Kritavarma, Kripacharya the only three survivors of the war from kaurava's camp attack the camp of pandava's during night time. pandava's along with satyaaki, go to the bank of ganga that night, and aswathama kills the five sons of pandava's by accident. after this incident, arjuna and aswathama get into fierce battle, and both use brahmasthra. Upon the request of sages, both try to with draw their weapons, but aswathama does not succeed in with drawing his weapon. He directs it to uthara's womb, actually diverts it towards pandava women. uthara is carrying Parikshit, and though brahmasthra was not stopped, the burnt fetus was retrieved by Krishna. due to this act, he was cursed for life. idhi naaku thelisina story bro. the world of appearances may or may not be real, or both may and may not be real - or may be indescribable; or may be real and indescribable, or unreal and indescribable; or in the end may be read and unreal and indescribable - its all Syadvada | ||

the wound on head which is not supposed to be cured ever, was caused by removing the gem that he used to have on his forehead. "Ashwathaama Balir Vyaso Hanumanash cha Vibhishana Kripacharya cha Parasuramam Saptatah Chirjeevanam" ani antaaru. Ashwathama, Bali, Vyasa, Hanuma, Vibhishana, KripaCharya, Parasu rama are the seven souls, who are immortals. i.e, their soul will never their physical body, which is against the dwellers of the earth, which is also known as mrituloka. Coming to Aswathaama - he is the son of dronacharya in maha bharatha, supposedly a sage with expertise in warfare, and a devout devotee of Lord Shiva.
