Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy has created a suspense of sorts among the media persons by not naming the MLA, whose resignation was not rejected because it was exactly as per the assembly procedures and rules. The Speaker did not reveal the name on the record as well as off the record and the media has started making their own inquiries with the Legislature Secretariat officials. But strict instructions were given to the officials not to leak the name, because the Speaker is still trying to talk to the MLA and ask him to withdraw the resignation. However, media persons could guess a few names, based on the hints given by the officials off the record. First name that was doing rounds was TDP legislator P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, mainly because he was the legislative affairs minister and had full knowledge of the procedure. The officials also hinted that Ashok had recently surrendered the quarters allotted to him in the MLAs’ colony. Another name was that of Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, who was the Speaker during the TDP regime and he, too, is well aware of the procedures. A couple of other names also came up in the talks: that of K E Prabhakar, TDP MLA from Dhone; and Chennamaneni Ramesh, TDP MLA from Vemulawada in Karimnagar. However, reliable sources in the assembly told Greatandhra.com that the MLA was TDP legislator from Nagarkurnool Nagam Janardhan Reddy. He was the only MLA who did his resignation sincerely as per the procedures and all others resigned only for formality. Sources said Nagam is also being persuaded to withdraw his resignation. |

http://www.andhrajyothy.com/mainshow.asp?qry=/2010/jan/30new 59 Surprising as it may sound, the resignation of only one MLA is valid, as against 222 resignations submitted by legislators of all political parties. This was revealed by Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday. He said out of 222 resignations, 92 MLAs have withdrawn their resignations till 7 pm. Of the remaining, the Speaker said he had rejected 129 resignations, as the letters are not in according to the rules because they were conditional. Only one resignation letter is valid. I am trying to speak to that MLA and see whether he is keen on resigning or he wants to withdraw,  he said. Kiran Kumar Reddy, however, refused to mention the name of the MLA and said it was not proper on his part to do so. I have gone by the procedures laid down by the Assembly rules. Nobody can question can the Speaker’s discretion,  he said. The Speaker said he had not acted upon the resignations till date because he wanted the emotional atmosphere to calm down. I am not supposed to act on the resignations submitted in an emotional manner,  he said.
