XSi is 450D and an year old model. 50D & 500D are newer ones. Canon naming convention in general... XX series are for Professional and XXX are for Prosumer models. 40D is PRO model where as 450D is prosumer... similarly 50D is PRO and 500D is prosumer.  Not necessary brother. Nikon or Canon ante... its like comparing Chiru & Bala. For Bala fans he is the greatest... and for Chiru fans Chiru is greatest. I've Canon and happy with it but I've also used Nikon D300 and Sony A300 L & Olympus E410. I've taken pretty good pictures with all these cameras. Basic ga chepocchedi emiti ante.. look for features in the camera... most important is in body IS. Idi unte your lens cost will be lower. Paina cheppina models lo Sony ki in body IS undi... but adi cheap plastic tho make chesinattu anipinchindi... but photo quality is good. Once you stick to a particular brand.. you will be forced to stick to that forver if you are in the process of adding additional lens. In future you can retain the lens and upgrade the body.
