But, low light (especially indoors) lo 1.4 performs better with less noise. I can see the camera can focus (auto-focus) much faster over 1.8. ---------------------------------------- That's true. Inko difference is the build quality of the lens. |

Mrhyderabad:Wt is ur take on Sigma lenses / vs canon lenses?
Sigma lenses are good, they will give you good results also. They obviously lack certain Canon features (like USM, etc) on their lenses. Lack of USM creates noise when lens does auto focus, it bothers some people. If you are okay with it, it is fine. Also, image stabilization is another critical feature for good pictures. Sigma lenses may not be on par with Canon lenses. This comes into picture only if you are shooting with a hand-held camera. If you use tripod, this is not even a factor. And the most important factor is, what are you going to use that lens for. The price difference between Canon vs. Sigma lenses sometimes makes it worth going with Sigma lenses. Also, checout Tamron lenses also, they are also good.
Mrhyderabad:Speedlites meeda emaina idea vunte suggest cheyandi for indoor pics...
If you have linkedin account, there is a canon DSLR group. Join that, there are discussions and suggestions on all these topics. Gives you lot more info than what I can give you here. |

Nanigadu: so is it something similar to Prime lens?
Prime lens is just another term for Fixed focal length lens. Working with zoom lenses is hard for manufacturers. They cannot provide you adequate aperture in zoom lenses since they have to put so much mechanism into the lense to make it work for the whole range of zoom. For fixed lenses, they can pack it with great aperture since they don't have to make it work for a range. That is also one of the reason these lenses become so expensive, albeit with great results. |

That's because of high aperture. The 18-55 must be having aperture 3.5-5.6 where as the 50mm has 1.4 which makes it fast and works great in low light. |
