South Scope Editor-In-Chief Vanaja Banagiri about Mahesh !! http://www.vbanagiri.com/2010/09/invincible-mahesh-babu.html // They call him prince. Some fondly address him as Mahi. His parents named him Mahesh Babu. Doesn't matter what he is called, what matters is he has been at the top of the heap for a long time now. While others hem and haw, he continues to do what he knows best - deliver powerhouse performances. One after another.And how! You know what the best part about him is? You ask him about his success and he reminds you of his failures! Tell me, how many actors would do that, that too in front of a media person? Not many I can think of. Meeting Mahesh Babu was an eye opener for me, in a manner of speaking. Much as I aprreciated his on screen avatar, I had pictured him as this reticent, recluse who may not have much to say in person. Much of my perception was based on what I heard from people who had met him, mostly my media colleagues. For once, I was happy that my preconceived notions were far from reality. As things turned out, I found myself on the sets of Khaleja (Khaaleja, official spelling) in RFC's small town. I walked in to find Mahesh gyrating to his entry song Tinglish tune and kicking some butt at the same time. We get talking during his break time and he narrates an incident when his kick landed with real impact on some unsuspecting bloke during a shoot. He guffaws aloud as he recalls the instance and I notice his easy demeanour. Once inside his vanity van, I scrutinise his face with my peepers looking for make up. I couldn't find a trace. As if he could read what's going on in my head, he calls for some wet tissue and wipes his face clean. Further, he dries it with a hand towel. So there he was, the heartthrob of millions, in flesh and blood with a sqeaky clean face, in front of me. We spoke and spoke like old friends who had met after a long time. Not only does he look like a dream, he talks like one too. Such a combination of super success and utter simplicity is hard to come by. Add to that, single minded focus, deadly projects on hand, philosophical outlook and spiritual detachment and you will derive a mindblowing potent formula called Mahesh Babu. He's a total rock star, on screen and off it. He can hold forth on any subject from smoking to spirituality, living to loving, with inimitable panache. I have to thank Namrata, his wife, who insisted I meet him personally even though I'd asked for an email interview. In retrospect, it was a lesson for me to not let other people's opinions cloud my impression. Did I mention how I almost ruined such a memorable experience because of my reservations? So guys, let your mind be like a clean slate, a blank canvas... And let the colours be yours and yours alone...
