As a result, they are getting confused with certain words and are also misleading politicians. These days one can often find the words “psycho fans” in the Telugu media, while referring to the loyalists of Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. And some over-enthusiastic journalists on the desk have started using the literal translation of these words – Unmaththa abhimaanulu (mad fans). As if these words are standardized, the politicians have been using these words regularly at all press meets. The fact, however, is that there is no such word as “psycho fans”. It is actually “sycophants” which mean people who are stooges or staunch loyalists who always praise their leaders. But these Telugu journalists are not aware of this term and have been freely using the words “psycho fans.” On Tuesday, when former minister D L Ravindra Reddy used the actual word – sycophants to criticize Jagan loyalists such Ambati Rambabu, the Telugu channels have immediately distorted it as “psycho fans.” This angered pro-Jagan MLAs – G Srikanth Reddy and Adinarayana Reddy, who wondered all those who supported Jagan or YSR were mad people or psychos. God save Telugu journalism!
