we did not have the mechanisms to check infiltrations in the winter .. every year .. Indian army retreating to barracks was a normal routine until Kargil happened .. failure of the govt of the day (which is barely 10 months old) and earlier govts to not have a policy in place !
telidu .. as far as I know .. they did not even file a chargesheet .. the reasoning given was .. we needed huge number of coffins immediately .. and we needed to procure them at the earliest !

sare .. how was it like during those times .. it was early summer of 1999. kargil infiltration was not yet discovered .. BBC India was telecasting a program every sunday called "Commando" .. It is about the Indian Army commandoes undergoing training .. The program was recorded an year earlier I guess .. it was full of young chaps from different batallions and regiments .. undergoing their training and explaining it to the people what sort of tasks they are given .. why are the asked to do those and all .. It had several people like Gaurav Kalra, Vijay Thapar etc .. and sadly .. most of them sacrificed their lives .. while leading India to victory later in Kargil !!! inka cheyyaru adi .. aa war gurinchi America/Britain kooda reports release chesayi kaani .. Major Padmaphani Acharya, 31, hailing from Hastinapur on the city's outskirts, was killed on Monday in the Kargil operations. He was hit by enemy shelling. His family was informed about his death on Tuesday. Local residents took out a rally and raised slogans hailing his martyrdom. Acharya was born on June 21, 1968 and graduated from Osmania University. Later, he joined the Indian Army in 1993. After completion of training at Madras, he was commissioned into the Rajputana Rifles. He was posted in Assam and Delhi before being sent to Kashmir. He was married to Charulatha in 1996 and the couple was expecting their first child. Padmaphani's father Jagannatham, a retired Indian Air Force officer, took the news about his son's death with pride. He said his second son, Captain Padma Sambhav Acharya, is also fighting in Kargil. "I am prepared to sacrifice my other son also for the sake of our motherland," the proud father said. | ||

Modern day might of Indian military .. those images of the Bofors guns pounding the peaks in Himalayas .. those images of Navy Marines taking positions in the mountains to hunt the dogs .. those images of people sending their pay checks voluntarily to Army fund .. those images of women folk garlanding and praying for success of the army, with the trains of army men leaving railway stations lastly .. the smiles and pride of seeing the tricolor unfurled on the Tiger Hill in Drass .. wat a scene ..
